Ok, so we've had more than our fair share of ****e in recent years. And alot, of them were just so **** we wanted rid of them as soon as possible. But were there ever any players you just couldnt help, but want them to succeed?

I always liked Albert Luque, even before we signed him (thanks to Eurogoals on Eurosport...what a program that was!)

I was thrilled when we signed him...I can even remember what I was doing when I found on from good ole teletext!

I went to the Man Utd game at home, when he made his debut. And I was gutted his goal was offside. And from then on in I wanted him to make his mark. When he got injured against Fulham, I was adamant he'd come back all guns blazing. How wrong I was. He just looked like a man lost at sea, and I felt so sorry for him. I was pleased when he scored against Sunderland, and when he scored THAT volley at Shearers testomonial, I thought "he was back". Again, I was wrong. So another season came along, and with Roeder never really giving him a chance, it was nice to see him score against Palermo. I was also really glad to see him score a few goals in our Pre-Season with Big Sam, I thought he'd actually have a role to play in that season.

I was sad to see him leave, I felt he had so much more potential.

As an outsider, I have to say that Shearer guy always showed potential.

    Alas, unfulfilled. ;)

Xisco. Never really got a chance and has had too many managers since he came, must have been a right confusing time for him here.

What's so funny! He may have turned out to be a bad signing but I'll never forget that he played a game for us , less than 24 hours after his brother had passed away.

Yep, Hugo Viana for me too, was quality when we signed him. I remember chatting to some Liverpool fans in Spain about 10 yrs ago and they were jealous that we'd got him! Shame how it worked out.

Albert Luque, I remember the pic of him outside the club shop when we signed him and thought he was gonna be the bee's knees!! Rumour has it he was offered 30k a week at first by shepherd and his agent turned it down and asked Luque, "What sort of figure shall we go back to them with?". Luque apparently said £70k per week, taking the mick, and Shepherd agreed <doh>

And Xisco... I still feel he's been unfortunate but need I say more?

I'm noticing a pattern emerging. Don't buy players from Spain! (Apart from Jose and Jonas)

I always wanted Dyer to be a constant in our line-up, but injuries had the better of him.

Xisco, Viana and especially Luque, every game he played i hoped it would be the one where he turned it around

At the moment i'm just thankful that alot of foriegn players aren't on this list, Collo, Guti and Jose have taken they're time but are now showing us why we kept them

Sorry mate, I think he was in it for the money alone - didn't know the above but still reckon he was a tool.

I was gutted to see Parker leave and in the manner he did, I always thought he was our hardest worker on the pitch and I'll always like him for it. He always gave 100%, even when the rest of the team couldn't give a ****, he always ran himself ragged.

I really feel he could've done so much more if he stayed at Newcastle or went to another decent club instead of West Ham.

He was my favourite player the whole time he played for us. Hes still my fav from another team. Would be wrong to call him a flop though

Didn't we use the money to pay for Barton which has finally paid off

Andreas Andersson was a flop whom I thought should have done well.

    Collocini as well dude

Tbh i want all of them to do well, (even Perch, i think the abuse he gets is really harsh, the las clearly tries, jus maybe out of his deth a little, i still think he has potential, remember he is a CB, never has he played there for us, its always been right back or left back) but the one i would have to go for is luque, especially since i have a top with him on the back
