All the interviews on Talksport still indicate that it is Fernandes on his own and it is a done deal. If this is the case I can't see there being much, if any, of a transfer budget available. The guy isn't rich enough. However, he could be fronting up a consortium, but this hasn't been made public yet, or is Mordashov gonig to come through on the rails? What are we all thinking.....because I haven't got a clue.....
as i said on a previous thread, i can't see that this guy would spend half his fortune on the club, there must be other investment surely!?
You know, it wouldn't surprise me if nothing is decided yet, and the Mittals make a last minute play. May just be wishful thinking, but the club is worth what they're prepared to pay for it. They may have to swallow a bit of pride but I'm sure Ecclestone won't rub it in if his profit margin is big enough. In his cryptic clues, Cerny kept giving the impression he might know the outcome, but couldn't possibly say. But then he'd come out with something like "The next few days will be interesting". Why, if the deal is done? If Can-you-hear-the-drums-Fernandes is coming in hard to buy out the Goons , the Mittals must surely take more than a passive position.
Difficult to vote on this one as, a) I haven't a clue what is really going on b) Which of those options would be best for the club
Difficult to call at this stage Roller. The media is speculating on the little they know. Our ITK, Cerny B, is confidently hinting otherwise. What I do know is that if Fernandez' estimated wealth is correct or thereabouts, AND he takes upwards of 50% of the club from Ecclestone, that's as good as saying the Mittals are back with a vengence!! Fernandez just won't have the means to sustain an ambitious forward plan, which the principal other shareholders are likely to insist upon and have more than enough to carry through. If Fernandez fails to let the Mittals back onto the board and even if the Goons retain a minority holding for some reason, we only need to wait until the first AGM to see fireworks! A Fernandez led consortium would be equally interesting for similar reasons. Can't see atm how Mordashov fits into the picture at all (especially with Mittal retaining a sizable interest) but Cerny B hasn't ruled him out of the picture yet... Question is what does Ecclestone Briatore really want? Signs are to save face. That would explain their statement and an initial sell out to Fernandez at an acceptable (probably undisclosed) price - well short of the £100m. What would they care if Fernandez subsequently sold up to Mittal for a small profit therafter? They'd still be able to brag that they held the Mittals off and got the price they wanted. Mordashov apart, and without having to play their hand, those reprehensible yet popular Mittals certainly remain conspicuous... Forgive me for abstaining on this one Roller.
Apologies Goldie. Hadn't seen your very similar submission to mine. Great minds, or fools seldom... ?!!
Definitely great minds, Brix, but if Northolt has heard a whisper, we're probably both wrong in our analysis!
What we're hearing from a lot of people is just guesswork and some of the figures are too vague to draw firm conclusions. The club is supposedly worth £100 million and fernandes may have bought 51% which means an outlay of £51m, rather less than some commentators have suggested and more affordable, given his relative poverty! Also that value figure may have included him taking on some of the club's debt, again making the actual outlay rather smaller. Finally, he may have done a leveraged bid i.e. borrowed money to buy the club. All of which suggests he could have bought 51% on his own and still have a few coppers left over to buy a couple of full backs and a defensive midfielder. Me, I'm a Mittal fan but anything is an improvement on Flabby and the midget.
Still think Fernandes Air Asia company will be the shirt sponser and Mordy the new owner...just doesn't add up for Fernandes to plough half his wealth in without any help... but like most haven't a scooby on whats going on
I put this poll up just to try to gather opinion in one thread, but now I think that here we have QPR in a nutshell. We have all read the same releases, heard the same interviews, but can we agree on what is happening? No chance. Why not? Because nothing is straight forward at QPR. Even a takeover is shrouded in mystery and confusion. As I have said may times in the past (no, not young and hungry on this occasion), why would anyone support any other team?
Ok...obviously I haven't a clue cos I've just seen the presentation of the trophy after the Atlanta game and there was Gianni...holding the trophy alongside Flavio and someone who looked remarkably like this Fernandes dude !! the plot thickens ! I suppose this is why I love QPR....
Yep, it's certainly plausible... and sits in with Cerny B's suggestions. Problem there though is that Mordashov and Mittal are said to be bitter steel trade rivals. Hostile shareholders and all that... Rodney's calculations are also interesting in terms of how Fernandez could find a place at the table. The question there is, is Ecclestone valuing the club at £100m or just his 62% share; and whichever it is, is the £35 - 40m debt included or not? More questions than answers...
NO? Paladini there tonight? ...just when I was hoping for a Walt Disney-esque kip - all sweet dreams and stuff!! Oh well, he ain't called teflon for nothing.
i would assume that the debt is outside of any share deal, as the "value" of it will not change regardless of the number of shares being bought and sold. Just going back to the original rumor, are there any Russians around who are friends of Lakshmi Mittal? We may be missing something obvious here.
