The aim is to start off with 16 players and end up with one player triumphing in the final. Every Saturday each player will pick 5 horses. A 1 point win stake will be placed on each horse*. Sound familiar? That's because to avoid any extra effort to take part, the horses selected for Cyc's competition will be used for this competition. So the HRF Singles Cup will be running alongside the League Competition. The first round will be drawn from 16 players to produce 8 matches. The winner of each match will go through to the next round. The 8 winning teams will go into the hat for the draw for the Qtr finals. Then on to the semi finals and final. In the event of a draw it will go to extra time where each player may pick one horse on the Sunday. If still no result after extra time it will go to a penalty shoot out. At any time during the week each player may pick one horse. If the profit does not produce a winner, the bet will be treated as a tote place. If that doesn't produce a winner there will be a count back with all bets being treated as tote place. During extra time and penalty shoot outs the home team will be allowed first pick and the away team must choose a different horse. Please add your name below if you are interested. I'm definately in, was actually thinking this the other day when the FA Cup draw was on. Not606 racing forum's always on my mind . Sounds good. You'll have to let us know the dates though because Xmas is a busy time and there's no point me joining a 4 week cup unless I can commit.
We can start in the new year if preferred but it would be a shame to miss out on the Boxing Day and New Year's Day racing (which would be instead of the Saturdays). ie: Round 1. Dec 17th Qtr Finals. Monday Dec 26th Semi Finals. Sunday Jan 1st Final. Saturday Jan 7th I fully understand that this could be an unsociable time for competitions although I expect most of will try to find time to watch the TV races. It will be run in conjunction with Cyc's league based comp so we will need to tie in. I'll leave it to you.
Yes I agree Kempton will be watched by most. I thought it might have it's own comp tbh, the big meeting that it is. Perhaps also the league/cup too will run with it too. I hadn't checked the Xmas dates but, personally, I can do those. I'm away without internet 24th to 31st so my fear was if something like the 28th/29th was included I was stuffed but for sure I can do those so we'll see what others think edit, i'll probably go out in the 1st round anyway . Live draw sounds fantastic btw
Me too, although (getting way ahead of myself) the Sunday tie-break could be a problem! Just have to make sure it doesn't go that far! If you get more than 16 Ron, run the first day as an eliminator, putting all entrants into groups, like in the world cup, and make it the top, however-many from each group go through to the next round. (for instance if 20 enter, then 4 groups of 5, losing one from each group going forward)
Just a suggestion; we could arrange extra time if necessary (eg select a horse by the following Thursday at latest to allow time for the penalty shoot out if necessary)
I thought about SP as well Ron, but settled in Tote because it was easier to split tied entrants. If a couple tipped different 1-1 winners, the tote usually gave a slightly different payout. It just made it easier to break ties. Still, I like the tie breaker idea where they line up for a run off. PS. I'm all for making it easier. Go for it mate.
That is true Cyc. Although it's a bit of a gimmick, I thought I'd try the extra time and penalty shoot out to make it more cup-like. Let's see how it goes and refine if necessary next time.
