That does look a little open mind. I thought they would have some clever solution to that with it being 90 feet high. Wearmouth Bridge is the same but you can look toward the road and have all that metal around you.
True about the Wearmouth Briidge it is fairly open too. I’ve been looking at the artists impression and it is higher in the middle but still very open. I’m also not sure if it is a double fence?
I though they might do it like that one in London near St Paul's Cathedral. That fence is really open but its angled out so feels more substantial. It's going to look absolutely fabulous though! Plus they should add a bungee jumping stall in the middle for the kids.
I used to park at Manors metro and walk over the central motorway until it was icey and for some reason my arse went and I basically monkey crawled across. There would have been no throwing me off as I was liable to just run and jump over the side myself. Vertigo is odd like that!
I’m weird with heights. I’ve have no fear but, if I’ve watch someone else, my stomach churns … … I've taken some massive risks and gotten away with it which probably makes me over confident.
My mate jumped off the town bridge when he was pissed after the Man City game. Missed the water and landed on the banking, broke both his thigh bones and watched the final in hospital.
I'm exactly the same, particularly with the bairn. I watched that Free Solo movie about Alex Honnold recently (great movie btw) and thought I was gonna have a cardiac.
I suffer from feeling drawn to the edge despite having no desire to jump, it's known as high place phenomenon. A really odd feeling and my mam gets it too. That bridge will be interesting for me to walk over
Weird isn't it. I was in St Andrews recently and noticed a roofer walking along the ridge of a three storey house on the main street ... ... what made it worse was that he was carrying tiles under one arm and holding a toolbag with his other hand. I was rooted to the f*cking spot until he came down
I was discussing it with a mate, in the pub, before the Blackburn game. The lad is a local funeral director and he had a great photo looking across the bridge to the stadium ... ... it'll be a great 'photo opportunity' place which might cause a bit of congestion on match days tbh. I asked if they'd allow a funeral cortege to go across with a horse drawn carriage and red & white plumes ... ... he gave me a bit of a look but I've put my name down anyway
They should put an arrowhead type of area on the SOL side so that looking from above it would look like a git big arrow pointing towards the stadium. Maybe a bicycle parking area or even just a seating place for picnics. Planes flying over it should be able to see it and lots of people with drones would be photographing it. Just imagine it, a huge pointer towards the centre of the Universe.
A lad I know was ready to jump from the bridge but got talked out of it. His nickname now, and has been for about 25 years, is Tank Top cos he isnt a full jumper Funny but not funny if that makes sense. Must have been in a bad place to even consider it.
That man is unreal, we have the Kendal climbing week over hear and there’s loads of films on with Alex free climbing, the man’s a bloody nutcase.
Mines slightly different I get drawn to the edge and I actually want to jump, I’m not daft enough to do it but I’d love to.
