Interesting article in yesterday Telegraph Sport (Wed) about Bristol and Steve Lansdown the owner of Bristol Rugby and Bristol City FC. I did broach this subject awhile back when I read another article about Bristol Sport. Steve Lansdown is ranked 77th in the Sunday Times Rich List with an estimated fortune of £1.29 billion. He got inspiration from Barcelona and a tour of the Nou Camp.......he said. he was "expecting to see lots of football memorabilia but was surprised at all the other sports that were featured."......He said, "It made me realize that it was not just Barcelona FC, but Barcelona basketball, Barcelona water polo etc and I thought other cities could do that as well" Hence Bristol Sport was born in 2012 after he purchased the rugby club alongside City. Under this new broad church sit Bristol Flyers, who compete in the top tier of British basketball. a motorsport division and a water polo team. as well as women's football and rugby sides. With these sports promoting Bristol and Bristol promoting these sports they command attention where a single sport has difficulty doing that. Of course Lansdown is seriously rich....he has spent a vast sum with seemingly little prospect of a return....." £50 million has been quoted a while ago,It is obviously more than that" but he takes issue with being called benevolent. So Plymouth have various sports that represent the city....if only they could get together under one umbrella they would have more clout to succeed.......Obviously James Brent is a bit of a pauper compared to Steve Lansdown and he certainly hasn't got £50 million to throw at it.....but we just need to hope someone somewhere will come along one day. Interestingly Lansdown was introduced to sport later in life when his son badgered him in to taking him to a City match.....and then he was hooked......how hooked is Brent...maybe a little fortune means you only get hooked a little bit.....stands to reason.
Brent is a banker, yes I didn't spell it wrong, and he will only ever be hooked on deals and money......for him. He hasn't spent 50p.
Yes i read that and saw what he meant as seen all that at the Nou camp a few years ago.. makes sense. But 50 million to him is not a lot.. Brent haxt not got 50 thousand to throw in and i don't think he is committed.. just waiting for him to pull the plug.. But hope fully i am wrong . as there is no one else to take it . YET
