I'm not going to blather on about the lack of new striker but the thought of leon best being our first choice striker makes my blood run cold. Ba needs to really step up and show us what he's got in the next few weeks starting at QPR.

A goal against QPR would be the best possible scenario and if they plan on giving anton ferdinand a debut then that for me represents his best chance of getting one. the lad has lived off his brothers name for too long. best bit of business the mackems did was getting rid of him.

QPR are going to be really fired up for this with Joey leading the charge. I expect him to be close to his best with a point to prove. i just hope cabaye outshines him. SWP will get a run out too, and although i don't think he would make our starting 11 i think he'll be a tidy little acquisition for them and a potential thorn in our side

I fancy a tough game down there. Ba does have to start playing and he showed against Fulham the confidence is coming, I just hope this long international break doesn't hinder him. One thing I don't agree on is the critisim of Best, every time he is asked to do a job he does,he deserves a run in the side and may be the pleasant suprise we need by giving us goals in return!!

Best had a good game at the weekend no doubt but he's not going to pull up any trees long term. he's decent cover if i ever saw it but he's far too inconsistent to be playing week in week out. i'd be VERY surprised if he got more than 10 goals this season. which wouldn't be bad for a back up striker but not good enough to sanction a starting berth.

Ba desperately needs a goal this weekend to get his confidence up and announce his arrival.

i think we have to until ben arfa returns then its a no brainer to have Ben Arfa playing off Ba.

He has 8 goals in his last 13 premier league appearences which is very good. He is only 24 also which I think people forget, the "tree pulling" could still happen!!!

Undoubtedly that's the long-term goal, but that requires Ben Arfa to come back first - could be ages before that happens, especially as we have to get him back to full fitness from his broken leg.
For now I see Best/Ba as our first choice. Although I suppose you could even have Ba/Marveaux...

Big game for us like. Need to show QPR that signing a **** load of players isn't always the answer. Time to gel etc, look at the mackems.

I do agree with this, however, I think its between Best and Ba to fight it out for that role as the main striker until Benny comes back!!

well i certainly hope your right jockmagpie, and i admit that those two should be the first choice until ben arfas fit of marveaux breaks through. I see Best as more of a harewood type of player. a 'try hard'. runs around hustles will get you a burst of goals but can be very frustrating and do nothing for weeks on end before scoring a couple to sweep his 20 offsides under the carpet for a few more weeks. i hope to god i'm on here standing corrected in a few months time.

Like I said earlier mate, the way the club is just now,its very much a wait and see/time will tell situation. Its the same with the transfer windows. The days of big signings are gone and youth has to be given a chance.

I do think Ba should play with Best upfront, although IMO at the moment Best is playing better than Ba but I think Ba will score 14+ goals this season when he finds his form

I agree with this. I'd play Best until Ba is up to speed though but I doubt either has what is required to get the goals we need. Pardew was pretty accurate about Best, he plays turd most of the game but is a bit johnny on the spot. He needs to improve his all round game but I don't think its going to be dramatic. Ba has looked anything but a footballer so far. The goals are a massive worry but so is the confidence being drained from elsewhere due to a lack of goals and play constantly breaking down because one area of the pitch is not functioning properly. We have bought some nice tidy footballers in the midfield area with a nice balance of culture, creativity mixed with hard work. But they have 2nd rate players in front of them who do not have the technical skills to play the way we are now trying to. This sucks the life out of midfielders and when the goals become scarce, the pressure on the defence rises and mistakes are made.

thats why i'm not jumping up and down with the bed sheet brigade. i expect us to stay competetive but we could have been reaching for something higher had we brought in ruiz. the positive thing being that we might HAVE to go with youth at some point and i think they'll show their worth and become established members of the first team pool. i'd be giving sammy cameos every other game and i'm gutted haris got injured against fulham because i'm expecting him to be breaking through properly this year.

I think we'll stay pretty solid at the back this year baring injuries to key players and i expect us to play with a bit more attacking flair if santon settles quickly. he likes to get forward but its the fact the shackles will be off jonas that will see new attacking impetus. once the likes of marveaux get in the first 11 we should be fine as i expect us to create enough chances for even a 2nd rate strike force to put a couple away. we just need to get there fast and play with real itelligence, which i unfortunately don't see happening as cabayes through balls etc will be a bit too clever for the likes of best. the man can't even stay onside.
