Ask fans at almost every club in the Premier League what their team needs for success this coming season and signing or retaining the services of a 20-goal-a-season forward wouldnât be too far from the top of their list. But this new article shows that not only are such players extremely rare (only 33 in history of #EPL), you don't need them to win the Championship (only half of championship winning sides have boasted one). Here is the link to the full article. http://hitrowz.com/2013/07/14/the-myth-of-the-20-goal-a-season-forward/ What do you all think? What does this mean for Hull? Do you need to sign a top striker this summer like Gary Hooper? After all, Andy Johnson scored 21 league goals for Palace the last time they were in the top flight, and they still went down. Ben
Last season proved that pretty much. Cardiff and Hull didn't have a scorer that got into double figures (although Campbell would likely have done so if he had been at Cardiff all season, and Aluko would have also broken double figures had he not got injured).
You do need a couple of strikers that can at least threaten to get into double figures (10-15 per season in the PL) would be great, at the moment we have only maybe Aluko that can achieve that.
Yes agree with Glennonslastpint with the amount we have to spend if we managed to bring in a couple of forwards who get us 20 goals between them then i think we will have done great. Having said that others will have to chip in with a few as well
According to Thisishullandeastriding, Troy Deeney, is interesting us - scored 20 goals for Watford in 43 games + 10 assists. Comes with baggage but less than some that have been linked with us. http://www.thisishullandeastriding.co.uk/story-19518080-detail/story.html#axzz2Z3LopJDW No idea if there is anything in it and know he's mentioned on Bruce's shopping thread this morning, but the 20 goals thing jumped to mind when I read it. Cheers.
Austin didn't exactly help Burnley did he? Same with Rhodes at Blackburn or Wood at Lester. Cardiff didn't have a 10 goal player this season. These players attract attention and interest but I want us to stay away because they are made to look good by the rest of their team. When all the goals come by the same player you rely too much on him. Aluko will bag 10. We need another 10 goal striker and we'll be sorted with additions from Brady, koren, Meyler, Prozzy.
I think Fryatt could be good from the bench to grab a handful, 7 or 8 would do with a few other players chipping in with similar then the odd few with 2 or 3. I'd settle for safety with a couple of games to go, although if we got a Hooper type who can score 10+ the I think mid table would be closer.
Not important to have a 20+ goal scorer if the sum of the parts scores enough goals to win games over the season. We were promoted in 2nd out of 24 clubs & the top scorer got 8. Simpson, Aluku & Gedo all were hot for critical periods others chipped in.
Do you think as fans we get hung up too much on the idea of a 20 goal a season striker? Statistics from the Premier League era are quite interesting: http://hitrowz.com/2013/07/14/the-myth-of-the-20-goal-a-season-forward/
Please, at least look at other thread titles down the page in the future... http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/219828-The-myth-of-the-20-goal-a-season-forward EDIT: Threadception...
As Elliott was a winger not a striker we haven't had a 20 goal a season striker since before David Lloyd took over the club. We haven't done too badly in that time.
