We always knew that this would be a hard league to get out of, anyone can beat anyone we need to start picking up away points but I'm happy so far.
Red - I wish you'd stop writing these complicated and insightfull articles. We won and I suppose that's all that matters, but we should have been out of sight. Why do we make it so difficult when we generally play so well as we did yesterday? Hudson seemed bound to get one header under the bar at some time, and without him we would have dropped points. Gunnar, Mason and Helguson all guilty of failing to put away opportunities that would have made Hudsons intervention as just a bonus. As it was he earned us the three ponts in the end and I'll take them anyway they come. Good 3 points in the bag although against a side that didn't impress me. Like early high flyers Wolves and Blackpool at the CCS, Hull played a bit like us on the road.
I disagree. I thought hull were impressive but lacked a cutting edge. Apart from a 20 minute spell in the 1st half when Kiss was clearly off the pace we put in a strong performance. We are 3rd and have done so with Bellamy , Mutch and Smith to come back in plus money available in January. Those 3 would walk into most line ups in this league. Not to mention weve lost maynard for the season. A very good and deserved 3 points. Add Cowie , Connolly and McNaughton (injured early). Most sides losing that amount of players would be 3rd bottom.
Being without key players and still winning isn't the question, although it is a valid point. Those on the pitch yesterday did everything that was asked of them and thoroughly deserved the spoils. It's the difference between this season and last. Having a squad that can cope with key player absence is what will make the difference. We've lost games with Bellamy and Smith on the pitch this season and won games without them. Hull put in a decent effort but they played to contain us and should have paid the price much more severely from the chances that came our way. We need a replacement for Maynard.
It still isn't good. 9 points from 6 games, thats half. To hit 20 points from the second 10 we need to win the next 4 games. Will Smith and Bellers be back any time soon? And what about Mutch? I think we will be lucky to get 18 from this ten, and its the dismal scorelines away from home that are hurting us. We got Direbly next away and they are no roll overs. And all this is only good if we been the Boro next saturday. Another "Must win" game in this hardest of leagues.
Snaggs - I think you'll find it's Barnsley next up for us away, with Derby after that. Boro next week will be a big test - they're a very slick outfit under Mowbray and I'll take them to be up there at the death. Those two away games that follow will be seen as a watershed for this season though - we need to improve this away form (attitude?) drastically to maintain the 2 points a game average we need.
We scored 22 points in the last 10 but you cannot carry the 2 extra, you have to put them away forget about them and start on the next 20 from 10, as you say, 2 points a game. The way we're going we only need to begin dropping points at home and we will be in the smelly stuff. Deep!
I wonder if Chamakh would consider dropping down to us on loan, could do very well in this division, we definitely need someone to put some of these chances we're creating into the back of the net.
If Jerome (a Stoke player) wants £25k per week to go out on loan (I read yesterday that Leeds were interested - think they could do with some defenders first after yesterday) then what would Chamakh want - unless the Gooners would sudsidise us? Not been a very good goalscorer in Prem though. Xsnaggs - I very much agree on the 20 points per 10 games target but I also think that having 2 more in the bag from the first 10 gives a little comfort zone for the second 10. I would be happy with 9 points from the next 4 to get us to 40 from 20. We are then still on for 80 from 40 with 6 points for a Brucie's Bonus - oh sorry, we had that yesterday.
