Don't know about the rest of you but i've woken up this morning with mixed feelings about yesterday. Obviously the Samba deal is brilliant and i think of all the recent buys, that's probably the most significant. And i'm happy that we didn't end up getting Odemwingie as i fear he would only have been another overpaid, overhyped addition in the Cisse mould. TBH, the other buys don't do anything for me - they're squad players and you have to question their motivation for coming to us. What we really needed was players, like Samba, who are proven team players committed to the cause. And one last thing - i feel a little uncomfortable with the perception of QPR as a club trying to buy it's survival and being the dumping ground for has-beens and mercenaries. I fully trust in what Harry's doing and know that we had to go back into the market but i don't like how we are now seen as the rich kids living out of the pocket of TF. And i'm even more worried about the backlash of told-you-so's should we not survive. I think we need to hope that we can survive this season and then have a clear out/sort out in the Summer - but right now i feel we're in a bit of a mess. Anyone else feeling uncomfortable?
As I said yesterday, the Samba signing, while fantastic in itself, really just takes us back to the position we started for the City game in terms of the squad. We clearly needed more attacking options but having failed in that respect (Jenas is another variety of Mackie, Dyer, Bosingwa, etc, IMO) it looks like HR is going to have to get it done with tactics rather than new players. Crouch would have made the biggest difference and its a shame that fell through. I agree the wheeling dealing leaves a bad taste in the mouth.
Apart from Samba, I thinking the new players may add that little sparkle we need to make the team 'click'. You don't need a big star on a kings ransom to make things click, just a certain type of player who 'click' with another. Sure, Samba will make his own statement but players working together will get an even better outcome. The difference between drawing and winning a game. To answer your question 'Lofty' .............. I think we can hit the ground running and over the next 4 games, we must win 3. Norwich - Win Swansea - Win Man U - Lost Southampton - Win
Agree...he needs fitness and games though...not played much this season Well happy with Samba lets hope Remy does the biz
all though there was some good deals i still think we are light weight on the striker front to be honest, its a shame odemwingi deal collapsed due to his stupidity & wba being cocks.
why jammers? we was right not to talk to him as its illegal & there suggestion of taking hoilett no way, also quite right in not paying over the odds we put in a fair offer & you can only go so far, theydidn't play ball with us & now they've got an unhappy player on there books.
Fact is we are/have been a dumping ground and we are living out of TF plus the owners pockets and until we get some results and steady the ship this preception will not go away. Can't say I like it either.
Not quite so sure we are to blame ............... Odemwingi acted with his own instinct & stupidity and backed himself into a corner, when that didn't work, he came out all guns blazing trying to force the deal. Again, that backfired as well. A loose cannon in the dogfight we are up against is probably best forgotten. As talented as he may be, as some of you have mentioned, he may be classed in the mould as say, Cisse ............. and create issues within the club. At the end of the day, what was meant to be, happened but you have a point with us may be light on in the forward department.
That is one fantastic position to be in re the departure of Nelsen. Never thought we'd be able to replace him properly.
Don't get me wrong, not saying we are to blame just pointing out that we are not whiter than white. We have talked it up in the media a plenty and I can't help but feel we talked to the player at some stage. Clearly the boy is a little unhinged with turning up at Loftus road, but the way the whole affair has gone you can't just blame WBA imo... Anywho, not signed window shut it matters not I guess
I am happy with Samba as he scores from corners, so that adds something. He is a leader, fighter and very quick. As a well known footballer said yesterday 'he would get into most Champions league teams'. The only downer for me is the striker but we must trust arry. the others are young and hungrey (everything people were calling for recently)? Look at it this way See what business the others around the bottom have done? WE bought a quality Foward in Remy and a top defender in Samba. Reading bought a player from Crawley called 'Hope', Villa got in a spanish 2nd division player. We have stopped leaking goals and stopped losing. We have taken 5 points off 3 top teams Chelsea/City/Spuds none of the others have. We now need to beat the dross and we will be fine. In Harry we trust.
All in all a good window for us, Samba being the icing on the cake. Yes, maybe we ended up a striker short but we now have to just get on with it. Jenas and Townsend are good players, so both have improved the squad. Look at the quality in the squad now compared to when we were first promoted, there is a world of difference. We now have a proper Premier league 25!
Jenas is a very good signing and maybe it will work for us as he has something big to prove after his injury. You can't write this player off its a very good signing. Townsend is fast I expect us to break very quickly from now on. Bring it on we must beat Norwich however as this will justify everything. I still expect us to sit and soak to suss Norwich however
I can't remember what these look like not having seen one for two years or more. Other teams are good at it though.
