I'm concerned by the lack of Taarabt.

Faurlin would surely stay in the defensive two, assuming the same formation.

Ah yes forgot but CB has always been straight its the others here who twist his words ... he's on the bench plan G ... so no one will buy him! he comes on for 15 minutes to entertain and get the result we will need

I agree re CB. So how much straighter could he be than leave Adel out the team?

    Apologies.

What I was actually getting at was options we may or may not have in midfield areas. Personally I would play Adel just behind the front two.

Cerny, that leaves you three in defence, if you play 4 midfield and At behind front 2. Could you be suggesting that maybe we have wingbacks and operate (depending on who we play) as 5-3-2, which will / can change to either 4-4-2 or 4-2-3-1?

    Of course not !

Like I said I was looking at our potential options in Midfield, clearly we would not start with that many people in the middle.

Cerny, ok I misread your original post, however Jamie M has played left back - maybe he could play left wing back / maybe Puncheon and Cole if they sign could also do a job. And I can't forget Dyer....

something fo NW to ponder on.

Time to sup up and switch off me thinks

Nice to know we've got increasing options even without the hypothetical ones! As Ninj points out, we'll need formation contingencies in the chess game that is the prem. Can't rely on the old 4-2-3-1 we've been playing... the six man defensive unit may have been hard to break down but once sussed, as against Watford, Millwall, Scunthorpe etc., we fall apart without a plan B.

What we lack imo is a solid, imaginative, tactical captain like Venables was, or Roeder, who choreographed things in training and were able to change our shape to confuse and befuddle the other side when things came on top. That's been a major weakness since Sir Neil's been around. No answer to a reverse.

So since we dealing with hypotheticals, any thoughts on this? (I speak as one who believes the skipper has to be a midfielder.)

Maybe Warnock doesn't encourage an onfield tactical captain changing the formation. He certainly wouldn't let Taarabt do that!!!!! Derry strikes me as someone who has the tactical nous to see what is happening, he turns up in the right place too often for it to be purely by chance. He is clearly not in Venables' class, but not many have been.

My impression is that Jago would have been more open to other people's ideas that Warnock.
