And so it starts as usual.... late April and the media goes into high gear, starting all the usual transfer rumours, managerial quotes, instability in the ranks and talk of players leaving. So far in the space of a week the BBC, the press and the sports TV stations have all reported:

    1. Harry denies rift with Adebayor
    2. Corluka criticises lack of squad rotation
    3. Bale may leave if Champions League football is not achieve
    4. Harry admits Modric may leave in the summer

Ok, so I conceed.... highlighting these stories in a thread is not exactly doing us any favours as I am only stoking the fires. But before you shoot me down, really my point here is... do other clubs get THIS MUCH attention? We always seem to be be at the wrong end of this c**p year after year and the season hasn't even finished yet!

We have a massive game ahead of us today which will make or break our season and on the eve, two of the above stories broke.

For me, our Chairman needs to step in and close ranks on this kind of stuff. Ok, so you can't stop the press from printing this rubbish but you can demand that the Manager and players shut up, concentrate on training and act professionally, in the interests of their employers. Come on Mr. Levy... get stuck into them a bit. COYS!

Good luch trying to shut Harry up! Nobody has managed it yet. We all know that if Modric doesn't sign the new contract that he's liable to be sold. We don't need Harry and the red tops reminding us every week. Let's face it, if we do manage to **** up CL qualification, he may not be the only departure.

Atleast 'Arry said he doesn't think Bale would leave. He just couldn't keep it shut about Modric though could he :D

at least 'arry is looking like he's on his bike. perhaps our new manager won't be a "media whore" and as a result, the press might get bored and move onto another club.

Redknapp's relationship with the media has often been at the expense of the club.
It's something that Levy needs to set in stone when his replacement is in place.
Unfortunately it's something that's very important in the modern game and we probably need to do some work on how we approach the whole thing.

It makes me angry how Harry loose tongue says things which on the face of it just damage Spurs.

Please explain how making such comments about Modric is helpful? THIS is why Harry loses support from the fans so quickly when things go wrong.

How we need someone who just says to the media, we are concentrating on the next match and not interested in speculation.

Just be boring Harry FFS and get on with the job you are so handsomely paid for.

He gets the media on his side this way though, Spurf.
He's not stupid or naive, he's playing the game.
    Unfortunately it's at our expense.

Based on all the comments so far, Moyes for me without a shadow of a doubt!

The vultures are indeed circling. They've been pecking on us for the last two years.

They have found the next wounded animal.

Alan Stubbs, who is Everton's U18s and reserve coach, made some remarks earlier in the week about Moyes moving on at the end of the season, having taken Everton as far as he can.
He specifically mentioned that a move to Spurs may be too good an opportunity to turn down.

It'd be interesting to see what would happen to each of the squads if that move were to materialise.
A lot would depend upon our final position, but I could see Moyes going back in for at least a few of his old players, as well as keeping Pienaar at WHL.

The media (like Harry) is on it's own side. If he is naive enough to believe they will not turn on him when it suits then tough!

Spot on. Harry will only discover this obvious truth when it all goes south managing England!

    Oh, of course.
Every England manager gets the press that results dictate, unless they do something of note that doesn't concern the game.
Hoddle's ill advised comments about his faith, Sven's shagging and money chasing and Keegan's mental breakdowns spring to mind.

No skeletons in your closet, 'Arry? :emoticon-0112-wonde

The media always have to write something though, so he can expect absolutely everything to face scrutiny, even if he does well.

Even Ramsey who always treated the media with an arms length approach and bored them to death, even he was eventually hounded out.

Robson was almost reduced to a mental wreck until the last flurry of a WC semi-final. He was already going by then but had been forced to announce it early just to try and get them off his back. Then they had the front to suggest he stayed.

Venables had a decent ride until they focused on his financial affairs and we lost a potentially great England manager.

Taylor! they just ruined his career his confidence was shot and with it England.

Hoddle I'm sorry he asked for it when he started blaming players in public and talking of things that should have remained in the dressing room.

Revie had to leave the country.

    And so on.

Harry will be hanged just like Hoddle was as he starts telling dressing room tales.

The damage the media have caused the England football team is incalculable. They don't do Spurs any favours either, we are always good for a few column inches of crap. We are the biggest unsuccessful team after all and therefore an easy target.

Never mind all the strikers we've been speaking about in recent months...we'd be very likely to see jelavic at the lane, IMO

He's Croatian and therefore contractually required to play for us, now that he's joined the Premier League.
He's just taking a temporary diversion, a la Corluka and Kranjcar.

A couple of weeks ago Alan Hansen wrote a column saying how Moyes "must" leave Everton this summer. Ignoring the fact that in one article he wrote Moyes, Harry and Mancini out of their respective jobs as casually as you'd like, this would be a better choice than the tabloids' perpetually linking us to Rodgers and now Martinez.

I'm more annoyed at the latest 2 stories personally (Bale and Modric) - more Bale tbh.

His ego at the moment is ridiculous - he's conveniently forgotten he's gone backwards since the start of 2012 and now he has the gall to come out and say he's off (pretty much)?

He plays crap for half the season and then says 'well Spurs haven't finished where I wanted them to - I take no responsibility - see ya!'

I know it's not Bale-specific (Spurs' form and this player-power thing) but it's crazy.

Bale has managed to unsettle the squad again just as we're coming to the end of the season - good work kid. As for Harry on Modric - I'd have been more surprised had Harry kept his gob shut for 5 minutes so the article is nothing new. It pretty much states what we all know but again - it's unsettling for the players.

Suddenly more loyal players like Rafa will wonder who they'll be playing alongside next year and whether or not they themselves want to be here to see who we lose/get in.

Moyes is looking more and more the safe pair of hands that Spurs need having amassed a good squad.

We need someone now who can use it properly and retain what we have and add organisation and stability.

    Don't forget stability!

    We're Spurs.
    We don't do stability.
