I struggle with this one I'm afraid. What has happened to Madeleine is tragic and I would not wish that on any parent at all. Thing is though that they chose to leave her unattended and really that is their fault and their fault only. I do feel for them as well. We all do things in life we regret and this will haunt them forever. I still can't help feeling for them though. My gripe though is that there are thousands of kids that disappear every year all over the world and none have got the attention that the McCanns have had. The attention especially from the media has meant that their campaign has been able to be handsomely subsisdised whereas if this sort of thing happened to the rest of us we would have to get on with things as best we could without the financial backing. Still when you see little Maddies face in the papers it is heart wrenching, not for the parents so much, but for what has become of her. I have a 7 year old daughter and do not even to understand what the feeling would be like if I lost her. Could not even begin to contemplate it.
Ok The coverage the McCann's get is sickening! If a dole mole and his benefits Mrs left their kids alone on holiday and one was "kidnapped" then the headlines would have been very different! "Scum" would be the main one. They would be quickly forgotten after a campaign of hate! As you say, what about the other kids who go missing everyday? However, as the McCanns are middle class professionals, they are held up as victims! Yes, it is horrible their daughter was "kidnapped" but - this seems to get glossed over - it was their fault - they are to blame! They could not see the front of their apartment but decided to go to enjoy themselves at the other side of the complex! Irresponsible! Also, the book excerpts in the sun are horrible and sensationalist: Me and Gerry couldn't have sex after the "kidnapping"! I thought my daughter was cute in her new top, did someone else think that also! What the ****ing ****! I genuinely hope Madeleine McCann is found one day - safe - for her sake, not for the sake of the parents!
My theory is that, knowing they were going out for the evening, they decided to give the kids something to help them sleep. They get back and find out that, either through an incorrect dosage or an adverse reaction, the kid is dead. As doctors, they know that they will both be struck off and their careers are over. They decide to dispose of the body and launch an aggressive PR campaign.
Sky News: Kate & Gerry McCan wrote to the PM asking for an 'independent, transparent & comprehensive review' of thier daughters disappearance....... Well, bascially what happend was you went out and left her on her own.
They made a horrrendous error of judgement and they have been punished enough for that. I feel nothing but sorrow for them.
