Somebody posted a comment the other day that we need to lay a marker down in this league. I think that has just happened, 2-0 down to a side many see as one of our main rivals for promotion this season. Final score 2-4, many factors contributed to this. A manager willing to mix it up, a side high in belief and an attacking will. The number of shots away from home is huge, the percentage on target not so great (today I'm not moaning), but it means we are getting in the positions to take shots. I for one am a happy bunny. As a Canary living in Nottingham it's a good day. 1-0 to the sheeps tomorrow and that puts us top I think.
yes welcome notts. i think it was a supurb result,to come back (away)from two down to win was uplifting and would not have happend last season. we probably would have gone on to loose 4-0.i hope it shows a perminante change in our away mentality
That was a treble 19 marker if ever, second half anyway. First half more like the non darts thrower on bullseye. Nevertheless we came away with the speedboat towed by a Lada. Super smashing
Welcome to the forum! I'd certainly agree that today was the biggest statement we've seen from anyone in the league yet this season. To sweep away a team who should be close rivals this season in such a dominant fashion, away from home with a devastating second half display certainly underlines our ambition to get promoted. I also felt the strength in depth we have was very obvious today. Jerome was our game-changer from the bench today, but sat next to him we had one of the best attacking full-backs in the league, a promotion-winning midfielder from 2013, a midfielder with European experience, and that's not to mention Hooper and Howson who are yet to reach full fitness. Cardiff didn't really have anything comparable from the bench, or if they did they weren't utilised by their manager. Another thing highlighted today is just how competitive the league is. We jumped from 8th at half time to second on goal difference in the space of 45 minutes. We're going to have to continue to string together excellent performances and results if we're to get out of this league again. Obviously teams will separate out somewhat as the season progresses, but being at the top early on is crucial.
We've started putting results together and we had a hard start. The fixture list eases up a touch now. If we can bring this level if play and determination to the next few games. It could start looking very ominous for the other team. Another thing proved by the changes from the bench and the players still missing is we could survive a few injuries and still put out a very strong XI. Looking good at the moment fingers crossed we don't screw it up.
Welcome aboard to a fellow Notts yellow. It was a great statement from the boys yesterday, I wasn't thrilled at Adams appointment, but he's well on his way to proving us doubting thomas's wrong. Long may it continue. Bah!
IMO, the change began in the last 10 minutes or so in the first half, when Adams' came to the touchline and his urging spurred the players on. Bringing Jerome on for the yellow carded Lafferty made all the difference. O'Neil also showed how effective he can be in seeing a game out with good positioning and effective passing.
Great post RER and I said on the 'match day thread' yesterday that I hoped NA would take Lafferty off before he got a 2nd yellow - I feel if GH is fit for Tue, then Lafferty won't be in the starting 11, or NA might decide to start with Jerome and give the Brentford defence something to think about from the off!!! I'll be tuned in to Radio Norfolk to keep track!!!! I guess not many teams will be looking forward to playing against us and let's hope we can get past Shrewsbury next week, so that some more of the younger players can get some game time in any more rounds.
I am as encouraged as everyone else but for one thing - we do keep starting slowly for some bizarre reason, home as well as away, and have conceded several early goals. We must find a way to overcome that if we want to be in the top two come May.
Not sure this is that fair a criticism to be honest. Sure against Cardiff a couple of individual errors early on gifted possession in good areas (and Cardiff do have the quality to take those chances), but other than that when have we been that sluggish? There was the Cairney worldie against Blackburn, but other than that we'd not conceded in the first 45 minutes of a game all season before yesterday.
Individual errors or not, it was a strangely lacklustre first half performance on this occasion. All was certainly soon forgiven though. Still can't quite believe it.
