Mike Jones will take charge of the Barclays Premier League game between Sunderland and Wolverhampton Wanderers this Saturday. The 43-year-old from Cheshire has been a Select Group referee since 2008 having refereed his first senior games in the 1997-98 season. Jones - one of 18 referees currently operating in the Barclays Premier League - has taken charge of 28 so far this season, showing 106 yellow cards and nine reds. Jones last took charge of Sunderland in the 3-1 win over QPR at the SoL last month. During that game he booked two Black Cats - Wayne Bridge and Sotirios Kyrgiakos, he also showed Rangers' Djibril Cisse a red card for a challenge on Fraizer Campbell early in the second half. He last refereed Wolves in their 5-0 defeat at Fulham in March. ......................................................................................... Will he follow the tradition of ref's lately and make the headlines where they should not...
Surely the fact that they do an article like this shows what sort of ****e the refs are - if the referee's were decent and un-controversial, then an article like this would be overlooked completed (and we probably wouldn't know any of their names either!!)
For the record Connor - so do I - my point is only that these articles wouldn't be relevant if a ref was never controversial and got all of the decisions correct (I know they're human!)
A good referee is never mentioned. Most of today's trouble about referees is their instructions from the F.A. and also the media spotlight that is on them
