Todays FA Cup game has a ridiculous 5.30pm Kick-Off - not for UK TV but for overseas. A number of other games have been moved meaning that only 10 of the 32 3rd round ties will be at 3pm today. Traditionally 3rd round day was one of the best in the calendar - it will not be the same

Last night Spurs went to Tranmere - there was a banner in the away end saying "207 Miles Home - No Trains!". The fan who goes to games is simply not important anymore.

The FA have systematically devalued the cup over the years - stupid decisions based in greed:
    • semi-finals played at Wembley
    • no replays for semi-finals or finals (or quarters since 2017)
    • Man U withdrawing in 1999/2000
    • kick-off time of the final moved from 3pm to 5.30pm (or whatever time suits tv)
    • 5th round moved to midweek
The FA Cup is still the greatest National cup competition despite the FA's best efforts to destroy it

very very true, it used to be the main / the event of the footballing season to be looked forward to …. next to maybe the final! Getting togged up in multi layers after the excesses of of CHRISTMAS /NEW YEAR braving the freezing cold weather to often stand in cold wind swept stands with the odd snow flurry and feet like ice cubes, hot flask mostly with glass inserts what a real p****** when it got knocked or dropped … tea at 2d a cup was usually tepid and well over stewed … LOCAL BUS SERVICES which used to be local firms cashing in with extra coach's to ferry to stations or to games …
NOW well the glamour has gone and the greed has set in, even the weather seems to be 20 degrees warmer [ f scale degree's ! as it was always was back then! ] and not the its " f****** freezing, or f****** f****** freezing or f****** f****** f****** freezing" interpretation one....lol
I reckon 3pm crowd would be over 21.000 Huddersfield probably bring 3 or 4 K?

I think some of your criticism is warranted, but not all. Tradition can be a fine thing, but in some cases it's wheeled out unnecessarily.

I certainly have sympathy with away fans & their travel plans, so I think late evening fixtures are a genuine cause for complaint, but for me, splitting fixtures between 12:30, 3:00 & 5:30 is a good idea, as it means that greater attention can be given to a greater number of games, rather than get lost in amongst a sea of fixtures. It also means we can enjoy the FA Cup from midday all the way through to 7:30, rather than just 3:00 til 5:00.

    Regarding your other points:

    • I can understand the FA wanting to eek out more cash from Wembley by having semi finals played there, but I do agree that it has taken away from the romance & occasion of the finals, as well as potentially being bad for fans geographically.
    • A real opinion splitter this, but I'm not fussed with replays & the clubs themselves don't tend to want them, particularly that late in the season. I'm all for them in the early rounds though, where respective Davids force their Goliaths to replays & enjoy the benefit of gate receipts & the occasion. Frankly, I think the current compromise is spot on.
    • I'm not sure how much the FA can be blamed for this, it was Man Utd who chose to & did so to represent England at the inaugural (& short lived) World Club Cup. Still don't know why they simply couldn't have fielded youth teams if required though.
    • Didn't know this - personally I'd rather watch a game on TV at 5:30, but happy to say keep it at 3:00 traditionalists if that was the general consensus.
    • Didn't know this either, but sounds weird - only replays should be midweek methinks.

    FULL-TIME
    Bristol City 1-0 Huddersfield

Bristol City knock the Premier League's bottom side Huddersfield out of the FA Cup.

What a great win! Or perhaps it was expected from one of the Championship's in-form sides.

Another win did not go just hope this does not affect our championship games like last season.
Six points of playoffs that is where we need to be concentrating our resources.
Imagine Niki-Fammy-Webster-Brownhill getting injured we have not got the back up to replace this quality.

Just back, Brownhill was excellent and I was really impressed with Morrell.
Bailey Wright had one or two dodgy moments passing out but then had two excellent clearances. In his defence we play differently with our passing out of defence to when he last played so have to give him time.

Midfield when fit is going to be good Brownhill, Pack, Walsh, Morrell and Korey Smith.

Tbh, I'm a bit surprised by how much the media are painting this as a 'shock result' & a case of giant killing. Yes, Huddersfield are currently a Premiership side, but they're rock bottom & in poor form - every report seems to follow the narrative 'with all respect to Bristol City... etc'.

Went to their forum and they're mostly arrogant sorts complaining about losing to a mid-table Championship side. Well, they better get used to it, because they'll likely be experiencing it a lot next season.

You tell them Nick, how dare they refer to us in those terms. By the way I didn't see any attendance figures for the game on BBC but it looked pretty thin on the telly.

stats and things .. the more you use your brain ..to do anything the more likely it seems from certain "science" angles that "you" might fare better! ARGUMENTS FOR AND AGAINST USING LIMITED selected cases being just the very very tip of an iceberg of reality ………
so one of the reasons I keep notes and do a bit of stats from time to time … basically you are correct .. there does seem to seem far more activity when any post on here has a negative string attahed be it football or something else !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Prior to getting promoted Wagner in a TV interview stated " I cant fathom out why we are where we are!" or words close to that effect . now he knows why … an average team playing as a team and living off the "feel good factor" they are now a below average team feeding off the scraps ………!

West ham figures were up a few minutes after second half kick off , before the 60 minute point most were … ours still isn't!
