If it was anyone else we would say that we were short-changed, but as it was Quinny in charge of it we have cut him some slack. The reality was that whilst he is a lovely bloke, he didn’t know how to run the behemoth that is SAFC. He certainly did his best but history has shown that the Drumaville consortium were not the best custodians of SAFC and were happy to sell the club to Ellis Short who history will also show was not a great owner. This was evident when he sold the club to Donald and Methven who should never have been within a million miles of any football club, let alone SAFC.
Short baffles me when I look back! He was willing to put the money in, good money at the time that should have seen us become a steady mid-table club at worst! However he kept trusting ****ing numpties to run the club and it was just running along rudderless for most his time! Signing cheques but not really looking at what was going on? Would he have ran his other business interests like that? I doubt it!
This has baffled me too. Ellis Short is obviously a shrewd businessman, but had absolutely no idea how to run a football club. It just goes to show that if you have an owner, who has grown up around football all his life like KLD, it will bring success. It's like we were being run by Harold Steptoe and now run by someone who is as good as Daniel Levy. We are in good hands....
Highlights what a specialist role it is owning a football club. Short is presumably a business genius but running Sunderland made him look like a novice. Dreyfus is a bit of an anti Short, he puts in a minimal amount and expects maximum results. He's put together a great team to make that happen, Speakman being front and centre. Don't want to sound critical of Short, he trusted the wrong people and that was why he failed but he pumped a load of money in and always supported the club.
