    http://www.themag.co.uk/2015/04/i-dont-care-if-newcastle-united-go-down/

I don’t care if Newcastle United go down – Why should I?
I’ve supported this club through thick and thin for nearly 50 years but I have reached the point of total and utter indifference towards the current regime.
Why should I want Ashley’s club to earn a lot of money for him. That is all that staying in this league achieves.
Every season under Ashley is the same. We start off with a few lies in the summer about imaginary lines and players we are trying to sign. We then try and get to 25 points as fast as we can before Ashley arrives by helicopter like an epidemic sweeping across a country and sells the best players halfway through the season.
No replacements are lined up as somebody has advised him we will stay up without spending anything. But this time I hope he gets it wrong.
I want to see his greedy face as the final whistle blows and he loses millions. What does it matter to me?
In the Premier league we play teams who we can’t compete with anyway. Will I miss the usual hammering at Man City, the mackem humiliations, the usual home and away defeat to Man U, the usual 4-0 defeat at Southampton or conceding possession at home to European giants like Stoke, or hoping one of the top teams don’t go mad and put 10 past us?

To me supporting NUFC doesn’t depend on the league we are in and I really enjoyed the Championship season anyway. It was exciting and somehow refreshing.
Why should we bother with the Premier League. We spend all of our games trying to hang on and not lose, rather than win. There isn’t another team in the league who plays like that.
If there is a team who deserve to be relegated, then for that reason alone it is us.
Of course though, the real prize would be the chance to rid ourselves of Mr Greedy himself. Surely ‘Mike’ would have to reconsider his ‘business model’ if we went down again.

Loved the Championship, it was like being a man u fan in the 90's, we just kept winning and not just 1-0 here or there. We could go into games expecting to win, we didnt have one out and out goalscorer either. there was goals all over the pitch. but I got so much stick (more than i normally encounter) for being relegated by southern manc/chelsea/liverpool fans

Our time in the Championship was the first time since the days of Keegan where I would go to a game thinking 'how many will we score today?'.
It's a great feeling to have, plus you get to see lots of new towns and faces.
We used to literally take over some of the smaller towns for some games.
    Never any bother either.

What does it say for football when such opinion reflects the feelings of a clear majority? Football is failing its fans and in my humble opinion will die in its current form. Newcastle are the absolute epitome of what is wrong with football when capitalism takes complete control...

Capitalism ruins everything. Once Capitalism falls, true Communism will take over and the world will be a happier place. Long live the revolution. Victory.

I'm of a different opinion. I don't want to be in the championship again - much as it was fun to be there for a season and have expectation backed up by results. This is a competitive sport and we should, in my opinion, always look to be competing against the best in the country. Currently the best in the country are the 20 teams in the Premier League.

I do not believe Ashley would sell up if we got relegated to the championship. if we went to league 1 then maybe he would jack it in but by that point we would be in such an awful state after paying back his loan etc that we probably wouldn't be able to get back to the Premier league and therefore attracting a decent owner to buy us would be nigh on impossible. I think we'd end up wallowing about with Leeds and Wigan and not competing with the best in the country.

Bad as we are at the minute, we had some good spells in the first half of the season which are shown by our points tally now. It's worth remembering that in the competition to be the best club in the country we are 13th out of 92 clubs without counting the 68 teams in the conference divisions.

In summary, my view is that getting relegated is not the answer that some think it is. Of course in our current funk that leaves us as supporters in a difficult position. What can we do with an owner that is worth £5bn? Nothing apart from avoid the games. Lets face it, should a boycott happen it will only be for 1 match. Even then I expect there are going to be more going than boycotting based on the turnout to previous protests.

I'm not saying that nothing should be done, I am saying that I have no idea what action should be taken!

Anywho, those are my thoughts on the matter.

Food for thought, if anyone thinks the Championship would be a cakewalk, think again.
The last time we had the nucleus of a team capable of getting back up first time out.
The current shower of ****e, would be lucky not to drop down again.

Other promotions in my lifetime took many years, so be prepared for the long haul if it did happen.

I'd take it to get out of the current groundhog day though to be fair. I agree though, we have nothing in terms of being prepared for that division. Even Willo is League 2 now <laugh>

    Same here.

    More games,
Besides, some of the best years have been in the second tier.
Better than playing the never ending role of an also ran in the PL.

That we would rather go down simply so we could "hope" to come back up again kind of sticks it in a microcosm. All fans realistically want is hope - but we, NUFC, are the ONLY club throughout the entire country where "hope" is actively banished in favour of advertising and financial stability.

Fans just hope the team plays well, when the whistle goes. That's the shared hope of everyone. Then a win second. That's the 90 minutes taken care of. For a season, it's hope to win a few more to survive, a few more to go up the league, a few more to challenge for a cup and all the while we start each and every match in the hope that we play well. There's no more to it.

What Newcastle have is no hope of playing well, a pure and simple goal of finishing 17th or better every season. It serves no-one but Mike Ashley.

A fair point well made. If we gad a different owner, manager and ethos then I acually think a lot of players could surprise us. Jose was ****e to start with as was Colo, then we went down and they grew as footballers.
I can see players like Raylor, Dummet, Colback, Haidara, De Jong and Gouff actually performing really well with different direction in the championship.
Add to that the youth of Aarons, Campbell, Armstrong and you have the beginnings of a side who give a ****.
Throw in Darlow and Lascelles and theres a decent blend of inexpensive players who are capable of mounting a promotional challenge.... IMHO.

Why do people always mention Raylor? He was ****e when we bought him and Championship standard at best then, 2 years of non playing and he is just about League 1 standard.

In the Championship, Dummett and Haidara wouldn't be in the same squad. If 3 LB's are too much for the Prem, 2 is too many for the Champ. Raylor's a very mediocre player. A trier, he is Championship standard, but not PL. De Jong wouldn't hang about. I agree Gouff and Colback would look good in the next division down, but what's that saying for a club picking the former as first choice in the PL?

The youth is ok, but under this coaching isn't ever going to succeed. We're such a catastrophic mess it'll take a miracle to avoid relegation next year.

If we were to go down, we would be stuck in the Championship for several seasons. This is the worst side that we have had in the PL era. Our only saving grace is the fact that a lot of the sides below us are worse. The top sides in the Championship would love playing against us. Cannon fodder.
