Good Morning. It's Wednesday 27th July, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road We're not ready - Marsch Leeds prepare for their pre-season finale, with Jesse Marsch insisting that his squad is not ready for what lies ahead of them. Speaking candidly with YEP reporter Joe Donnohue, the 48-year-old believes it's an ongoing process, and admitted that in all his years of coaching, has never felt fully prepared. He was however confident that Leeds have 'a good team this season'. "I don't know how many years I've been a manager now, but I've literally never come out of pre-season and gone into the season feeling like we're ready. It's just the reality. It's an ongoing process. "From day one, the work and the concentration from this group of players has always allowed us to, day-by-day maximise what we're trying to become. "I still know there's so much work to do. But again, I feel that we're going to have a good team this season,” please log in to view this image Skubala set to be announced as U21 Coach at ER Leeds Utd are set to name Mike Skubala as their new U21 Coach for the forthcoming 2022/23 season. The highly talented coach has over two decades of elite coaching experience under his belt in both football and indoor five-a-side (futsal). He managed the National men's futsal team until lack of funding made his position obsolete. The FA were so impressed with him, they decided to keep him on. He now works with the FA on an advisory basis, as well as coaching the England U18's. His CV reads well. He was the youngest ever appointed England Team Head coach; achieved the highest ever World Ranking for England National Futsal team in over 18 years, and guided England to a Silver medal at the FISU World Student Games. please log in to view this image Do Leeds need another left back With just ten days remaining until the new season kicks off, Jesse Marsch is making final preparations to his squad as they prepare for their final pre-season game of the Summer against Cagliari on Sunday. Whilst Victor Orta continuous to work tirelessly to bring in a top quality forward, the left back role could be less problematic. With Junior Firpo sidelined for eight weeks with a knee injury, and Leif Davis joining Ipswich Town earlier this week, it was expected that Leeds would once again reach deep into the coffers, but recent reports suggest otherwise. Whilst they have made an enquiry over Real Madrid's Miguel Gutierrez, it has been suggested that Jesse Marsch may put his trust in Leo Hjelde. The soon-to-be 19yo certainly has the physical attributes needed for the Premier League, but with only two first team appearances last season, is he ready to be thrown in at the deep end? Gutierrez on the other hand is a year older (he's turned 20 today), and made nine appearances for La Liga Champions last season, and would be available for £7m. please log in to view this image
The Guitierez kid is going to be a great player but no chance of getting into the first team much. They have 2 worldy left backs even though Marcello has moved on but I hear Everton and WHU want him
Marsch says we arnt ready, well yeah we can all see that. Main reason is 2 weeks wasted in Oz, injuries to key players, not yet getting a striker even though Paddy STILL not fit oh and sorting out a LB. Tick tock Jesse
Jesse thinks we’re not ready. A blind man can see that and even the most positive of fans are worried at this point in time. Ok. A couple of signings could dramatically improve the situation but how many transfer windows have we said the same and nothing happened. Hard to believe while other clubs are getting on with their business and signing strikers even. West ham last night for eg that we seem to only ever be able to produce a short list of about three deemed good enough and then fail to land any of them anyway. I wonder how much has Rapha and Kp departing damaged the image of the club with prospective signings were attempting to make
Morning all Thanks for the cander Marsch but it's not what I want to hear a week before the start of the season. Stuff like that isn't going to fill us with confidence. You've had weeks work to work things out and it's been obvious we need more players but you're been lusting after CDK for ages now. Do we need another LB? Simple answer is yes.
E With all the rumoured outgoings like Bate being loaned to Oxford and Davis leaving for Ipswich I'm worried about squad size. We're already six players down and the season hasn't started. What's iit going to be like round Christmas?
Jeez guys he’s saying he never feels ready. It’s what perfectionists are like, that there’s always something to work on. He’s not saying it’s been a terrible pre-season and he thinks we’re undercooked. he may think that of course but it’s not what he’s saying
There is too much knee jerk reaction in the press to what Jesse meant. He was saying that they weren't ready as in not up to full speed match fitness wise. He also said that nobody else is either and that it is normal for teams to be under cooked at the beginning of the season. Everyone is. It takes a handful of games at a really competitive level until players get up to speed. You know what? He's right. We can moan about the trip to Oz and the injuries but we had two highly physical games against Villa and Palace which were very high tempo. That should be a headstart on what to expect when we play Wolves. The valid moans are those about the lack of a left back and a striker. This should have been sorted weeks ago. I think it's a bit harsh to say other clubs are out there recruiting whilst we sit around doing nothing. We did a hell of a lot of business early doors and are up the among the big spenders in Europe. Just chill a bit guys. He was misinterpreted.
Barca can't even register Raphinha. They've spent all that time trying to sign and they can't even register him.as a player.
Gooid Morning to all from a chilly Bardsey Well its good to see no mention ofCDK LET him go to Milan but we still need a striker who can score and a left back let don,t go down the cheap route
Talk about a joke of a club. They bring in the best in the world and won't be able to play unless they get rid of a load of players. Spent all that time last summer trying to keep Messi and he goes to PSG. They spend the best part of this summer and running round after Raph and he can't even play for them.
I just don't get all the angst, we all knew the squad needed an overall, we're getting that, the bench isn't going to be all kids this season, the window still has what? 5 weeks left, so I doubt we're finished yet. We all knew Phillips and Raphinha were leaving, yes we could have got more money but player power won, not too much we can do about that, unless we can afford £100m of talent sitting in the reserves, we can't. I see we're being slammed for being a selling club, the hard facts are the vast majority of clubs are, were Liverpool ridiculed because they couldn't hang on to Suarez and Coutinho, another couple of player power transfers, from one of the biggest clubs in the world, Pogba and Ronaldo the same at scum. The club have made mistakes like many others, we're 2 signings away from being a comfortable mid table team, 5 years ago, we'd have all happily taken that. Look at the riches at Newcastle, hardly setting the world alight, Everton and Wolves only 2 signings between them are Burnley freebies, it's not rosy every where, as some like to think.
Are you including Dallas and Ayling, if so, We have cover for them, one is long term and Ayling will be on the bench when he gets back, Firpo is crap, Cooper has cover and probably won't be playing much anyway, Forshaw is another on the bench and is well covered and the new lad hasn't looked the best of the newbies so far but TBF he hasn't had any real game time. That's 6, so not too bad IMO, Joffy should be back soon enough.
Gessa RB Ayling, Drameh, Christensen - vast improvement on last season CB Llorente, Cooper, Struijk, Hjelde, Koch - having them all available a bonus. LB Firpo, Dallas - worried RW James, Summerville - not bad LW Harrison and Sinisttera - better than last season DM Rocca, Adams, Forshaw and Gybai - much much better than last season AM Rodrigo, Aaronson, Greenwood - much better CF Bamford and Gelhardt - need a fit Bamford firing and a back up Notice also that a stronger bench especially when the next LB and CF are brought in. Its not all bad, we just need to hope Marsch is as good as he thinks he is
Afternoon all I wish I shared the same optimism as the more positive of you out there. Roll on the start of the season and let’s see how we fair
