Good Morning. It's Wednesday 24th August, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road Pulisic link gathering pace Rumours of Christian Pulisic being linked with a move to West Yorkshire is once again gathering pace, after pictures on Instagram showing Pulisic enjoying a chin-wag with fellow USA Internationals Brenden Aaronson and Tyler Adams prompted anger from Chelsea fans. Pulisic joined the blues in 2019 for £58m, (from Borussia Dortmund) but has failed to live up to his price tag. He has made three substitute appearances for Tuchel's team this term, but it's widely accepted that he is surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge. Predominantly, Pulisic operates as an attacking midfielder or winger, but is known for his versatility. Chelsea fans slammed the 23yo on social media after the pictures appeared, questioning his loyalty. please log in to view this image £60m for Harrison Sky Sports Assistant News Editor Lyall Thomas has stated that if Newcastle want Jack Harrison, they'll have to stump up in addition of £60m. The 25yo has had an amazing start to the season, and currently leads the way (along with Gabriel Jesus and Kevin De Bruyne) for the number of assists (3). He's also Leeds top-rated player on WhoScored, with a rating of 7.95, ahead of Rodrigo, and Pascal Struijk. Whilst £60m seems an awful lot for a player with two years left on his contract, it's great to see Leeds upping the anti against clubs who believe they can pick up a bargain at Elland Road. Surely, the club are in negotiations with Harrison about extending his contract? please log in to view this image Radrizzani full of admiration for Marsch Phil Hay has penned an interesting article in this morning's 'The Athletic'. In it, he reveals Radrizzani's admiration in the way Marsch motivated the players upon his arrival. Multiple reports at the time suggested that there was unrest between some of the players during the latter parts of Bielsa's reign, which could have turned toxic had it not been addressed. Marsch was able to put an arm around players when they needed it most, whereas his predecessor preferred to keep his players at arms length. That's not to say that the players weren't close to the Argentine. The love and respect he earnt from both, players and fans will always have a special place in our hearts. Toshack and Marsch would also invest their time on the less vocal players, ensuring that they felt valued. According to Hay :- "Andrea Radrizzani, the club’s chairman, appreciated the way Marsch motivated the players and prevented the squad from splintering as the walls threatened to close in. Now, the expectation was that Marsch would truly shine. Victor Orta, as he had with Bielsa, stuck his neck out by backing the 48-year-old for the job so heavily." "He (Marsch) tried to engage with those players who were not seen as natural leaders, to make sure they felt valued. Many one-on-one meetings were handled by his assistant, Cameron Toshack, and the topics of conversation varied. Some focused on tactics and technical improvement. Some had an aspirational tone, asking players to think about where they wanted to be in five years." "Some would challenge them to think about how much of a life they had outside football; to place importance on finding pleasure and fulfilment beyond the day job. The idea was to create stronger personal relationships and an environment that was not entirely fixated on business." "Bielsa liked to keep the players at arm’s length and that arrangement worked for him. Marsch prefers to get close to them, being softer on the squad without being soft. His empathetic style is appreciated, not least because of the stress the club were under last season." "Leeds were one of several clubs who spent part of their pre-season in Australia. Manchester United were another. Manchester United’s players and staff were asked to stick to strict curfews in the evening but Marsch’s attitude was to tell his team that the line between fun and disrepute was blindingly obvious and he preferred to trust them to stay on the right side of it." please log in to view this image
There can be no doubting Marschs man management skills. Rodrigo one of the best examples. Just a completely different style of management to Bielsa. Thankfully it’s working. Maybe lock Harrison away somewhere for a week till this Newcastle stuff blows over
Good morning everyone He hasn't quite got the persona as Bielsa, but Marsch (if he ain't carefull) could in himself become a club legend, the way he seems to have galvanised the players into what seems a very happy unit is amazing in such a short period, i see him as someone who is carrying on Bielsa's great early work, and doing his best to take us to the next level whilst still delivering exciting football that all fans wan't to see (even my southampton mate said wow that Leeds side was a great watch at St mary's and thought the only way was up for us), which so far so good. And long may it continue.
Morning all. I hope we don't underestimate Barnsley. Winning is a habit. I'd prefer us to start strong then we can take our foot off late in the game. I don't want to see wholesale changes.
Watching this you can see how Tyler Adams had Conor Gallagher in his pocket on Sunday. What a player!
Agree. I'm fine resting a few but hopefully not a full team. We need to keep winning games. Winning is definitely a habit and so is losing. Keep that confidence high and maintain this early momentum as long as we can.
I had Marsch down as a 40% chance in the sack race, and then we did pretty well against Wolves and took 3 points and his subs worked a treat. He then went down to 30% and even though we threw away 2 points at Southampton there were signs so down to 25% and then came Chelsea so now only 10%. Very early days and we shouldnt get carried away, but he seems to be changing minds even in ghe media. Fair play to him and long may it continue
I rated Kalvin but never saw a dynamic display like that from him. He was all over the place winning the ball but also picking out passes. I don't think we'll miss KP with him and Roca. Getting way too positive. It's going to get Leedsy soon.
Good morning. I think Pulisic could do a decent job for a team at our level but we have plenty of attacking players who aren't out and out forwards. It's a lazy link anyway. I'm more confident in the ability of our second team in the cup this year than the last couple. I'd go for something like: -----------------Robles------------------ Drameh - Koch - Struijk - Hjelde ----------Klich ------- Forshaw-------- Sinisterra - Greenwood - James- -------------Gelhardt------------------- I expect Sumerville, Gyabi and Gray might see some minutes too and the first teamers that do play may only get 45 mins.
Not all of these but I don't think these would weaken us too much Robles in goal as he's experienced Give Drameh a chance at RB If Coops is fit enough we could use him and Hjelde Greenwood could start maybe with Klich Sinisterra instead of James. So after saying no wholesale changes I've suggested 7, sorry. Incredibly I don't think those changes would cause us too many problems.
It's normal for players to have a chat with their fellow countrymen after a game. Add in to that the fact that Pulisic has openly said he wants to play Champions League football and it's just not going to happen. Marsch has openly said last week that he likes the guy immensely. Always scores against Marsch teams (until Sunday) and would love to work with him. It would be a massive coup if we got him and he would be our record signing for sure.
How much of a striker is he though, or is this part of a plan to fill the team with attacking mids so that goals come from multiple players. Never liked only relying on a 20+ goal striker, much prefer 4 or 5 players all chipping in with a decent number of goals. On Adams, he said he was going to be 'a pest' around the pitch and he certainly was.
A difficult one. I’d like us to have a good cup run for a change but it’s a Yorkshire derby and they might just decide to kick lumps out of the first team.
Yeah Pulisic can play anywhere up the top end of the pitch. Not sure we need another of these types but he is a class act. There's nothing in it anyway. Pulisic has said he wants to play Champions league football. He won't get that here. Plus he is on 150k a week and we would have to spend most of the Raphinha money as a fee.
Think Klaesson will get the nod over Robles If Cooper fit I think he and Hjelde start with Drameh and Struijk Forshaw and Klich Sinisterra and Summerville Joffy and Greenwood
Yeah I’ve been banging on for weeks about how I would love him at Leeds, but heard Marsch admit that although he would love to work with Pulisic he said his next step would be to a Cl club as it would be a backward step coming to us just yet…
Still not sold on Summerville. He looked electric for the U23s but just hasn't translated that for the first team. I think Sinisterra could be the real deal though so I'd like to see him start.
Rodders is clearly relishing the striker role so that's rodders bamford and joffy as the number 9s Pulislic or aaronson behind them would be great, plus sinnestra can probably play there although he's an unknown quantity to me It's a left back we really need to sign
