Good Morning. It's Tuesday 7th November, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road Millwall could make approach for Cresswell New Millwall Manager Joe Edwards may make a rescue bid to bring Charlie Cresswell out of the cold, and back to the Lions Den, in January. Cresswell, 19 has been frozen out of Daniel Farke's plans, not even making the bench in Leeds last four outings. After starting at Birmingham (Leeds second game of the season), the England U21 Centre back has only amassed 31 minutes of game time, and is now their fourth choice, behind Rodon, Struijk and Cooper. He was one of Bermondsey's finest last season, until a fractured eye socket back in April, cut his campaign short. This coincided with a drop in form for the South London outfit, and they just missed out on the play offs. This season, they have slipped to 18th, after a terrible run of form, and owner James Berylson is keen to inject new blood in to the side. How is he supposed to progress if he's not playing games? This surely is the same problem Leeds had with Joe Gelhardt! Should Leeds cash in on Cresswell? Should he be fourth choice behind Cooper? please log in to view this image Could Rutter's lack of goals harm Leeds' chances of automatic promotion Georginio Rutter's all round game play has been nothing short of sensational this season, but the 21yo continues to struggle in one department. His work rate, and creativity may be top notch, but in front of goal, he is well below par. With almost 1300 minutes of game time under his belt, the Frenchman has accrued just three goals so far this campaign, two less than strike partner Piroe, and three less than Summerville.. The problem is Rutter plays centre forward, a position that demands goals, with Piroe acting as a No 10, and Summerville as a third striker / inverted winger, similar to how Sinisterra lined up for the Whites last season. On average, Leeds have 16.2 shots at goal (per game) this season; only Ipswich have had more. Whilst the Whites have netted 25 times (5th), unless they improve their shot to goal ratio, they could face missing out on automatic promotion, and having to rely on the play-offs. please log in to view this image Leeds plotting capture of Tykes starlet Leeds are plotting the capture of Barnsley's highly rated starlet Fabio Jalo come January. The 17yo winger has impressed since joining the Tykes last Summer (2022) from Benfica, and has already become part of Neill Collins first team plans. Jalo has exceeded expectations, and Barnsley are keen to tie him down to a new long term contract. Currently, his present deal expires at the end of the season. Jalo has shown little interest in renewing his contract, which may force Barnsley to sell him in January. Brighton, Everton and Fulham have also thrown their hats into the ring. please log in to view this image
Morning all. Ive been reading about Creswell it seems like forever now. He was going to be a future captain of the club etc. It appears he's about mid championship standard and Farke sees him every day of the week. However it only takes injuries to a couple of centre halves and he gets another chance. He'd better take the next one. As for Gelhardt, sell in January, ship has sailed as far as Leeds are concerned. We drop a division and he still can't get involved. Really enjoyed that video OLOF posted this morning. It had me late for work watching it
For whatever reason our “buying for the future, to save money later” policy is failing. Summerville and Struijk are the exception so far and should pay off. Gelhardt, Greenwood, Drameh, Cresswell, Bate, Perkins, Joseph, McGurk, Montiero, Klaessen and more just not happened as yet Sell on clauses may be the plan
Gnonto, Meslier, Gelhardt, Joseph, Cresswell will all make a profit @Doc and probably to the tune of 40-50 million.
The reason I suspect Doc is fairly obvious, the others aren't good enough but are bigger up by the agents and some fans when new initially sign them
You are signing potential and that’s really a gamble. Kids also develop at different stages with some very late developers. We can add Rutter into this pot too and not given a chance last season but now easily worth the money we paid. Summerville from wanting out was given a chance and has repaid FARKE. Jack Clarke now coming good but it’s Championship as yet. Greenwood 3 goals in 5 games plus assists but Championship. Cresswell still only 21yo and not forgetting 17yo Archie Gray
I don’t agree. Like all the top keepers he’s prone to an odd clanger. What would we replace him with and how much would that cost
Viktor Johannson at Rotherham. Best keeper in the Championship last season and topping the charts again this season so far. He'd be available for around 3-4 million and be on far less wages. Basically we turned down 20 million for Meslier this summer (Angus Kinnear said so). Sell him, spend a quarter of it on a better keeper and save a few million a year in wages. Guy is a full Sweden international to boot. Use the rest of the Meslier money to get a ****ing left footed ****ing left back and win more games.
As i know you all love a stat. Top keeper in the champ in terms of percentage of shots saved is the leicester keeper. If you look at xg (i know you all love xg) then it's the ipswich keeper. Meslier is bottom 5 in terms of percentage of shots saved. He rises to midtable if you look at xg. https://fbref.com/en/comps/10/keepersadv/Championship-Stats
Single handedly kept them up last year a bit like Pickford for Everton. Johannson had the best % of shots saved. Meslier currently sits in the bottom 8% of keepers for shot saving. At some point we need to change things at the back and Meslier is highly profitable for FFP.
It's not nonsense when your keeper rarely saves a shot on target. I'd say keepers not saving shots is pretty important.
