Good Morning. It's Tuesday 21st April, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road Whelan reacts to naming rights of Elland Road Noel Whelan was recently asked how he would react if Leeds sold the naming rights to Elland Road. The former Leeds striker was posed the question in the light of Spurs current negotiations with Amazon regarding a 250m proposal to rename the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. “It would be very strange. I would like to keep Elland Road but you can never say never. Everyone moves with the times. “We are talking about extending the stadium which I think is great rather than building a new one. “Elland Road has a great history so I would like to think it would never happen because it means a lot to people. I do not think the fans would want anything else. “With Tottenham, it is different because it is not White Hart Lane so it does not make any difference.” How would you feel if the name of the club had to be changed, but in exchange 60m was ploughed back into the clubs transfer kitty? What if the cash injection from naming rights was the difference in whether Bielsa stays or not? please log in to view this image Sun reveal EFL could regionalise divisions next season According to a report in the Sun (so it must be true), Football authorities are exploring regionalising the Championship, League 1 and 2 clubs next season to cut down on travel and accommodation costs following the impact of the coronavirus pandemic. This format is already used in the lower leagues such as the National League. It would mean a much shorter season, and only 11 home games! At the end of the season, a series of play-off matches between the top teams in the north and the top teams in the south to determine promotion! Leeds would be in the Championship Northern region (if they didn't win promotion this term) along with Barnsley, Blackburn, Derby, Huddersfield, Hull, Middlesbrough, Nottm Forest, Preston, Sheff Wed, Stoke and Wigan. A spokesperson for the Sun was quoted as saying: “A league revamp would involve the 12 teams in each sub-division clashing home and away before coming together for play-offs to decide promotion and perhaps relegation,” “This would, in theory, reduce the risk of the competition having to shut down in the wake of new Covid-19 outbreaks. It would also cut travel and accommodation costs.” please log in to view this image The Sun name their Championship team of the season The Sun have named their EFL Championship team of the 2019/20, and it includes four Leeds players KEEPER: Samba (Forest) DEFENCE: Cash (Forest), White (Leeds), Ajayi (West Brom), Ayling (Leeds) MIDFIELD: Sawyers (West Brom), Phillips (Leeds), Pereira (West Brom) ATTACK: Benrahma (Brentford), Mitrovic (Fulham), Watkins (Brentford) Unsurprisingly, Phillips was named player of the season, and Bielsa - Manager of the season! please log in to view this image
Morning all... When they say exploring the idea of regional, I’d imagine one person suggested it and the rest said something like “Don’t be silly” but it makes a better story saying it’s being explored. I can’t argue with that team of the season or player/coach but I know a man who can
Morning all. Couldn’t care less what Elland road is renamed to if we got 250m. It would always be Elland road to us fans anyway and would be what we’d always refer it to as. Regional division would suit us for most of season. We wouldn’t have to play in London till playoffs. Of course that’s when we’d hit the problem
When a ground has as much history as Elland Road does people still usually stick with that just so that people know what they're talking about even if the pundits at Sky etc have to use the official name. I think it's only the newish stadia like Emirates or Etihad that actually get called by their sponsor names by the common man. If we were to change the name though what would we like it to be? The names of big banks or airlines seem to corporate to me. I think I'd prefer the Campbell's Soup Stadium or Batchelor's Mushy Peas Arena.
Morning All, Wouldn't it be great if there was highway construction company, based in Elland, that wanted to pay us £250 million for naming rights.
The countdown is on...... Wait for the press to dig up an old story and tell us it’s going to be the Red Bull arena
Morning all. I'm a stuck in the mud traditionalist(well when it suits me) and I'd hate to rename the stadium, I felt the same way when there was talk about relocating and building a new stadium. But sometimes I can't see the bigger picture and what's best for the club. I still call the Aviva stadium(Where Ireland play their football matches) Landsdowne road. Unfortunately money talks, but us fans won't have a real say in it anyway.
I'm not calling him a bollocks No problem Elland, I'll let him know. Although I've been giving him a bit of space since he got in contact a while ago..
That's a good even though it's a team produced by The Sun although Ayling is a right sided wing-back not left I only see 3 Leeds players there Matt
It's amazing how other club fans & the media recognise the importance of Kalvin Phillips The only Leeds player that would fetch £25m/30m in the transfer window come the summer. Maybe not as the blessing in disguise with the current crisis is I can't see premiership clubs chucking money around like confetti as I reckon all of them will be cash-strapped by the time some a sense of normality returns, so if the FL halts our progress to the premiership we'll hopefully retain the majority of our current squad
