Good Morning. It's Tuesday 19th September, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road Piroe tipped for Championship golden boot Leading bookmakers Bet365 have shortened their odds on Leeds striker Joel Piroe outscoring his competition and becoming leading marksman this season. The 24yo, a £10.5m signing (rising to £16m with add ons) from Swansea City this Summer has been in fine form for the Whites, netting three times in as many games. He, and strike partner Rutter have already started to gel, and look set to form a deadly partnership for years to come. At 6/1, Piroe is early favourite for the Championship golden boot race, with Adam Armstrong (Southampton) 8/1, Che Adams (Southampton) 16/1 and Mileta Rajović (Watford) 16/1 all lagging behind. please log in to view this image Has Farke got a harder job to do than Bielsa If Daniel Farke can get Leeds promoted at the first attempt, how will that compare with Bielsa's achievements from his 19/20 campaign? The young German has had to contend with mass mutiny, others refusing to play, and a toxic Elland Road atmosphere; and that is before he could think about rebuilding his side. He has been financially supported better, but inherited a bunch of prima donna's who were incapable of stringing together more than two passes. Given the opportunity, who you swap Farke with Bielsa? please log in to view this image Leeds tipped for automatic promotion Leeds are now second favourites for automatic promotion, according to Bet365. Their late splurge into the transfer market, along with fine away wins at Portman Road and the Den has seen the leading bookies slash their prices on the West Yorkshire outfit winning promotion back to the promised land at their first attempt. Leicester City are favourites at 4/6, then Leeds at 6/4, followed by Ipswich (13/8), Norwich (2/1), Southampton (2/1) and Watford (6/1) please log in to view this image
Bielsa had a mid table squad. Farke has on paper one of the top 2-3 squads. So no it’s not a harder job. It’s maybe a harder start to deal with all the loans/ins outs… but on the pitch, it’s a much easier job.
Not sure Farkes job any tougher than Bielsas. Bielsa had to deal with all the covid stuff behind the scenes while masterminding promotion. Wouldn't swap though. In Farke we have a far younger man more likely to adapt formations and vary his starting eleven. Bielsa was probably too set in his ways in the end and was coming towards end of his career regardless of whether we were relegated or not. Two class managers in fairness in middle of a load of awful ones. Need to try keep this one happy
The squad Bielsa inherited finished 13th the season before with Bamford the only major addition. This season we seem to have a lot players who should be high end Championship performers but if this squad were in the PL you still feel we'd be in real danger of relegation with so many still to show they can really cut it at the highest level. What the future holds is therefore difficult to predict, but for the here and now we should all be very happy as it's difficult to remember us having this many good players when outside of the top division. Farke therefore in theory has the easier job but that may change next season if we're still in the Championship.
You cannot compare Bielsa with FARKE and full FarkeBall is only a version of BielsaBall. Bielsa rebuilt the whole club and FARKE has had to deal with the fallout of previous owners idiocies. FARKE has done a great job navigating through to the window closing but like Milky says FARKE has one of the best squads in the league to work with and if he fails to win promotion it will be seen as failure now
Plenty of bumps in the road ahead though Doc and probably starting this week at Hull or home to Watford. This is why Farke's experience at this level is absolutely vital as keeping calm when the rest of us are going full Corporal Jones will be key.
If things are looking like going wrong in any game, we now have a bench with game changers who can step up.looks at Sunday when James and Anthony came on and these 2 could be starters? We now have Kamara and Gruev, won’t be long before we see Bamford sitting there, Cooper and Byram not forgetting Spence … Shackelton and Poveda too
My big fear is Bamford hit stay fir for a few games and Farke will have some sort of mental wobble and put him back in instead of Pirlo.
Wonder what is on the cards for our keepers as I Believe we are selling Meslier in January so Darlow takes the number one slot. If that’s not happening where does it leave Klaessen who isn’t going to hang around and be number three. Klaessen isn’t playing for the 21s as they have Van Den Hueval but we have already seen Christie and Ombang starting so something needs to give. Obviously we have a new keeper coach
Let's not get carried away, chaps. Can I remind you of our home form? Played 3, drawn 3, dropped 6 points. At home! Until that improves, we're going nowhere. And let's face it, almost every team with a hint of a brain will come to ER & park the bus too, having looked at our consistent failure to win at home. That does not auger well with me.
Agree with your thinking WJ but... we battered Cardiff and should have won comfortably, WBA was mid sulky season and Rutter really should have won it vs Wednesday. I prefer to think we have settled down now and would have taken 7 points out of a possible 9 from Ipswich away, Wednesday at home and then Millwall away every day of the week (albeit, I would have expected three of those points against Wednesday)
Year we went up, first 4 at home- 1 win, 2 draws and a defeat, just 3 scored! Then won 6 in a row on home soil
Hopefully we’re already looking for a quality cb to replace Rodon after our inevitable promotion because there’s no way Spurs will sell him. We don’t need another Ben White situation where the parent club has obviously no desire to sell, and we start off the season already weakened with an inferior replacement. The guy’s outstanding.
Why did we buy Darlow and why did Darlow refuse Bournemouth to come to Leeds? If indeed it was all ok it still begs the question I put about Klaessen and the rest
I get that but as far as I know no one bid. It sounded as if you’d heard something concrete about January. Meslier just recently said he stayed because he felt he couldn’t just leave after being part of the relegation, could be bullshit of course.
