Good Morning. It's Thursday 7th April, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road Ayling wants to end career at Elland Road The Daily Mirror have reported that Luke Ayling wants to spend the rest of his career at Elland Road. The likeable defender has become a crowd favourite since moving to LS11 from Bristol City back in 2016 (for 200k), and has played over 200 games for the club. Ayling, who turns 31 in the Summer, has just over twelve months left on his contract. During a recent interview, the former Arsenal rookie declared his desire for a contract extension to see him through to retirement. The wing back position IS an integral part of the way Leeds play, and as such Leeds need to ensure that they are solid in that position. Should Ayling be awarded a new contract beyond 2023? Is Drameh going to be good enough to take over next season, or would you like to see Radrizzani splash the cash this Summer? please log in to view this image Burnley attempt the great escape Burnley came from behind to inflict maximum damage on both Everton and Leeds as Sean Dyche's men attempt the great escape yet again. Although the Clarets still currently the final relegation slot, they move within a point of Everton, and six points of Leeds, with two games in hand. Everton have played the same number of games as Burnley (29), but are in a wretched run of form. Out of twelve league games in 2022, they have won twice (including a 3-0 victory over Leeds) and lost ten. Even the Goodison faithful have turned on Frank Lampard. please log in to view this image Watford feels like a sliding door moment Replying to a fan on 'The Athletic', Phil Hay has described Saturday's crunch tie at Vicarage Road as a 'sliding door moment'. The Elland Road journalist believes that a win on Saturday would put Leeds firmly in control of their destiny, whilst a loss could plunge the Whites back into the danger zone. "Watford feels like a sliding door moment - get a result there and the season is well under control. Lose, and it’s all up for grabs again". please log in to view this image There should have been a minute's silence last Saturday Phil Hay was surprised and saddened that Leeds Utd did not hold a minute's silence / applause last Saturday at Elland Road, to mark the 22nd anniversary of the brutal murders of two Leeds fans. Chris Loftus and Kevin Speight lost their lives on the eve of the UEFA Cup semi-final between galatasaray and Leeds Utd, a night ingrained in our memories forever, but for the wrong reasons! Over two decades later, there is still bad feeling between the two clubs, so much so, that they refuse to do business with each other. According to Hay:- "As for a minutes applause/silence on Saturday, no-one has explained why there wasn’t one but there should have been one and it was disappointing that it wasn’t organised. The anniversary should be acknowledged every year without fail". please log in to view this image
Given all that we will draw Saturday and season will continue to drag on. Everton need five points to pass us and I can't see them getting them. I see last nights result as a positive
Have to disagree on that one. We were 9 point from the bottom three and now that's been reduced to 6 points with 2 games in hand. Not feeling positive about last night's result at all, especially when it was so close to being a draw. Everton will probably now get rid of Lumpard and subsequently get a bounce from a new manager.
This is whats great about having a debate when you get 3 people who are fairly sane, and I said last night that Burnley wouldnt get 30 points. Eire disagreed but today has said last nights Burnley win was the best result and Jammy disagrees. No falling out but maybe a few bantz to come….
I've said all season Doc that I think Burnley will stay up. All to play for now and as far as I'm concerned we're right in the middle of it due to our remaining fixtures. The good news is that apart from Bamford, which is a huge loss by the way, we're more or less at full strength. With hindsight changing coach has been a positive with 7 poins from the last 3 games but it will all count for nothing if we can't complete the task of staying up.
Morning all I’m with Eire, I felt a draw or Burnley win was the best possible result. I look at Everton’s fixtures and think they’ll lose that one, I look at Burnley’s and there are a few I think they’ll win. In an ideal world we’ll pick up points in our next few games and hope that Everton and Burnley swap places however as it’s still too close I’ll be cheering Norwich on for a win. In regards to the minutes silence I can see both sides, what about other fans who have been killed by accident or illness through the years, where does the line get drawn between minutes silence or not? I know it sounds harsh, I’m against an eternity of minutes silence, it has to stop somewhere, would you still expect this minute of silence in 50 or 100 years time?
Is that correct???? After Watford we don’t play again until 25th away to Palace? Wow although it’s highly unlikely anyone would take all the points on offer, the teams below us have lots of points on the table
Perhaps using the term sensible would have been more accurate ? Even better if prefixed with ' Captain ' of course
I went to West Brom v Bournemouth last night, Parker has B'mouth playing like he had Fulham but not as good, bits of flair, nice touches but too many sideways passes, no goal threat really, stats so they had 18vshots but Johnstone didn't make one save. On that evidence, B'mouth will be no threat if they go up, Lewis Cook looked every bit a Championship player. If Norwich think they're getting £25+ for Cantwell, they're horribly mistaken, came on in the 56th minute, couple of poncey flicks but little else. If he doesn't get a start in that midfield then there's no way any PL team will be after him. Davies injured? Not even on bench
Anyway good news 2p. I just got a full refund voucher from Aer Lingus for my failed trip for the Norwich match. So keeping it for me and my son for the first home game next season, hope it's Millwall Although I'm booked in for the Brighton game in May.
