Good Morning. It's Thursday 15th October, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road.

With 24 hours left, Leeds have a shortlist of four.

Media reports are suggesting that Leeds have switched their attention back to Norwich attacking midfielder Emi Buendia. The 23yo Argentine was snapped up by the Canaries two years ago, under the noses of Leeds whilst on loan to Leeds sister club Cultural Leonesa for just 1.3m. Two years on, his price tag has multiplied to over 20m.

Buendia was on Leeds radar earlier this Summer, though his price tag always seemed an issue. Perhaps, with only a day left of the transfer window, Norwich will want to do a deal?

Their interest in Buendia, is not to say they have lost interest in team mate Todd Cantwell. The England U21 International certainly put in some impressive performances for Norwich last term, and due to his age, is expected to fulfill his potential. Leeds had a 15m offer for Cantwell turned down on the International transfer deadline day and are reluctant to meet their 20m valuation.

Louie Sibley is certainly a player for the future. The versatile midfielder has recently broken into the Derby first team, and has shown moments of magic, specially from his left peg. Sibley is a raw talent, and still has a lot to learn. If Leeds were to do a deal, it would probably involve Sibley going straight out on loan, perhaps, back to Derby.

Ex player, now pundit Darren Bent believes Sibley has a great deal of potential.

“You’re buying potential,” “I watched Louis Sibley a lot last year, I really like him and I think he’s a good player.

“At the same time, after he scored the hat-trick against Millwall people started to mark him more and pay him a bit more attention and to be fair he struggled with that little bit more scrutiny on him with opposition teams setting up to stop him.

“As far as buying potential, he’s got all the potential to go to the very top. “For me, £10million is very, very steep.”

Overnight, Leeds have been linked to Reading teenage sensation Michael Olise. Similarly to Sibley, the former Citeh and Chelsea academy player has a lot of raw talent. He can operate in midfielder or either flank.
His consistency rate is improving every week.

Who will Leeds go for? Perhaps they will make two signings?

Premier League not at risk of suspending games if UK goes into second lock down

Premier League chief executive Richard Masters does not believe that even if the UK goes into a second lock down, due to the Corona Virus, it should not effect top flight football.

We saw all live sporting events including football suspending for three months earlier this year due to the pandemic which has cost the lives of over 42,000 in England alone. According to Masters ‘Project Restart’ has showed football can continue amid talks of a second lockdown.

“We’re in constant dialogue with government about all aspects of the co-operation we have with them,” Masters said following Wednesday’s Premier League meeting. “We don’t feel the closed doors model is at risk at the moment

“We think we’ve got a proven model that worked in Project Restart, and at the moment we’re happy, and so are government, that we can continue.

“No [plans to shut down], as I said, not that we don’t scenario plan and talk about various different outcomes - you have to in the current environment - there’s no talk about the Premier League or sport being suspended at the moment.”

    Morning all....

Buendia for me, Premier League experience and stood out in a relegation suffering team. No language barrier to overcome with Bielsa, it would be like having a translator on the pitch.

I’m not interested in over priced ones for the future, we have done that. We need a replacement for Roberts/Pablo or an injury to Klich.

Always been a Buendia fan but he was the first or second player we went after and had to walk away because of the price. Cantwell has been an afterthought but I hear no offer has ever been made for him. I would prefer Buendia over Benrhama simply because of that video which shows a billybigbollox mentality that wont work in our dressing room. I also think Buendia will improve under Bielsa.

Wouldn't be surprised if our transfer business is now done & dusted until January.

Football should continue as players travel on their team buses straight to ground playing in front of no crowds. I believe all PL players are tested every day prior to training sessions & games

Of course I was there :emoticon-0102-bigsm

    Date:
    Saturday, 18th March 1972.
    Venue: Elland Road, Leeds.
    Competition: FA Cup Sixth Round.
Score: Leeds United 2 Tottenham Hotspur 1.
Scorers Leeds United: Clarke, Charlton. (Spurs Pratt)
    Attendance: 43,937.

Leeds United: Sprake; Madeley, Cooper (Reaney); Bremner, Charlton, Hunter; Lorimer, Clarke, Jones, Giles, E. Gray.

Spurs: Jennings; Evans, Knowles; Pratt, England, Beal; Gilzean, Perryman, Chivers, Peters (Coates), Morgan.

    Match Report : Oz White
Viewers of ‘Match of the Day’ had been fed on a diet of Leeds United brilliance in the weeks before the FA Cup Quarter-Final clash with Tottenham Hotspur and in this match Spurs were devoured by United with another sizzling show. The famous 7-0 demolition of Southampton and the 5-1 thrashing of Manchester United had shown Leeds at their arrogant best. Although the win over Tottenham was slender there was an enormous gulf in class between the two sides. Leeds matched, if not bettered their displays against Southampton and Manchester. Only a world class performance by Northern Ireland International Pat Jennings prevented a landslide. Leeds played near perfect football in the first half when they were attacking the ‘Scratching Shed’ end.

Once again United were able to pick from strength, with Terry Cooper returning after injury, but it cost the almost 44,000 crowd a little more to watch them as the prices were increased by 50%. There was a little more entertainment for the crowd with Les Cocker putting the individually-named tracksuit-topped United players, complete with individually numbered sock-tags, through a series of warm-up procedures for the benefit of the crowd.

Tottenham had brought an estimated 10,000 fans with them, which made for an electric atmosphere, as Leeds tore into Spurs from the off, with Eddie Gray heading a Peter Lorimer cross against the bar and then Allan Clarke was close from ten yards. Mike England cleared a brave attempt from Mick Jones, as Tottenham weathered the Leeds storm and broke away for Cyril Knowles to find Martin Peters on the six yard line, but Gary Sprake pulled off a fine save to avert the danger.

Leeds started to dominate as they played fine attacking football to keep Spurs under heavy pressure and Pat Jennings had to be on top form to keep out the rampaging Leeds forwards, making fingertip saves to thwart Terry Cooper and Mick Jones. Allan Clarke worked his way to the by-line but his cross found no takers. Eddie Gray was no far away with a chip before Clarke hit the crossbar and it seemed just a matter of time before United would take the lead.

Spurs did create a couple of chances but Gary Sprake was not extended as he saved from Martin Chivers and Alan Gilzean. But late in the first half the game turned ugly. First Peter Lorimer was injured after a heavy challenge from Cyril Knowles and then Phil Beal came off second best in a clash with Billy Bremner. Soon afterwards, Bremner was hacked down by Cyril Knowles. And as he laid injured Mike England, who presumably thought the Leeds skipper was feigning injury, tried to pull him to his feet, which triggered a potential free-for-all, but the referee quickly booked the two players to defuse the situation.

After so much dominance from Leeds, it came as a total surprise when Tottenham took the lead three minutes before half-time. It was a freak goal and totally against the run of play. John Pratt sent over an innocuous ball from the left into the United box from fully forty yards out. The big men, Martin Chivers, Alan Gilzean and Jack Charlton all went for the ball but missed it and the ball curled into the net past an unsighted Gary Sprake, as Norman Hunter made a last despairing effort to stop it from going in. It was the first time that United had been behind in the competition and they would have gone into half-time feeling hard done by if they had trailled.

Justice was done two minutes later as Allan Clarke got the equaliser. Peter Lorimer played the ball into the Spurs penalty area from the right and Eddie Gray, standing on the penalty spot played it back into the path of Billy Bremner as he broke into the area, but the skipper’s shot was well blocked by Pat Jennings. But the rebound fell to Terry Cooper, who put the ball back into the danger zone. The ball fell kindly for Allan Clarke, who swivelled to put the ball past two defenders on the goal-line to get the deserved equaliser to send the teams into half-time back on level terms.

The second half featured some end to end play early on, as Norman Hunter hooked clear from the Spurs forwards, Peter Lorimer went close for Leeds and Hunter again cleared from a menacing Martin Peters. Then, after fifty-two minutes, Peters fouled Terry Cooper on the left edge of the penalty area. Billy Bremner took the kick and Jack Charlton met his cross perfectly, his powerful header giving Pat Jennings no chance as it flew into the top corner of the net to give United the lead. After the goal there was more sustained pressure from Leeds and Jennings saved brilliantly from Mick Jones, and Jack Charlton headed just over. Immediately, after seventy minutes, Spurs brought on Ralph Coates for Martin Peters in a desperate search for an equaliser, but it did not have the desired effect as Leeds carried on regardless and both Billy Bremner and Mick Jones forced Pat Jennings to pull off superb saves.

With eleven minutes left, Paul Reaney replace Terry Cooper, who had taken a knock, but United were able to play out the rest of the match without too much problem and another fancied team had been eliminated and United were through to the Semi-Finals.

So David Moyes never pushed to sign Benrhama yet his club are trying to sign him. Fee has been agreed which is a ridiculous price but transfer held up by crazy wage demands from billybigbollox. We dodged a big bullet here because his video cock up never made him have a rethink. Seems like WHU is a ****show from top to bottom in the boardroom

    Good morning.

I agree with Ristac and Doc. Buendia would be my first choice out of those we’re linked with. I feel he’d make more of an immediate impact to our team whereas Cantwell would provide competition but may or may not improve our starting XI. Cantwell also appears to be mentally weak.

I know it’s only two been a couple of weeks but it feels like there’s been another long delay in the season. The missus thought the international break would give me time to get some odd jobs done but by Monday i’ll have been to five non league matches between the Leeds fixtures which I don’t think she’s too happy about. I’ll have to tell her i’m having an affair next time.

Buendia would be my choice too.

Match that I came out of on a massive high was the Viduka 4-3 Liverpool. Unbelievable match and comeback.

Looking like Robbie Gotts will go out on loan to Lincoln City later today. I find this one strange as Robbie has got around half a dozen clubs chasing him including Sunderland, Swindon, Huddersfield..... I find it strange him going to Lincoln unless this is because Bielsa wants him to go there and guaranteeing him game time. Lincoln have already said they have no money so will not be paying a loan fee or indeed wages. They want him for free literally.

I wonder if it was them being so skint & having the gall to ask that appealed to Bielsa's philanthropic nature?
