Good Morning. It's Monday 23rd September, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road Leeds up to sixth after Cardiff win Leeds moved up to sixth in the table with a dominant performance over bottom of the table Cardiff City at the weekend. They squandered multiple chances to put the game to bed early on against an awful Cardiff side who'll do well to keep their heads above water this season. To make matters worse, Erol Bulut's side were reduced to ten men for over an hour, after Joel Bagan saw red for pulling Ramazani back whilst preparing to shoot. The man in black saw it as a goal scoring opportunity, hence the harsh punishment. Shortly after, Leeds took the lead. Joseph's clever flick released Ramazani, with a clear path to goal. He had the pace to hold off three defenders before smashing the ball past Alnwick from the edge of the area. This should have opened the floodgates but Leeds struggled to capitalize on their dominance. Aaronson, Joseph and Ramazani could have made the score-line comfortable going into the break, but had to wait until three minutes from time to secure all three points, and even endured the luxury of missing a spot kick after Bogle was bundled over in the box. Forgotten man Joel Piroe had only been on the pitch for three minutes when he made the match safe, firing past Alnwick from an acute angle. His precision strike could give Daniel Farke food for thought as they prepare for the arrival of Coventry City on Saturday. please log in to view this image 49ers keeping tabs on Corberan Despite a top six standing in the Championship, the 49ers are keeping close tabs on West Brom boss Carlos Corboran, according to reports at the weekend in the Sunday Mirror. Corboran showcased his Managerial prowess whilst at Elland Road seven years ago. He was bought in to replace Jason Blunt with the U23's but soon became Marcelo Biela's right hand man. As his profile grew, as did his confidence, so when Huddersfield Town came knocking three years later, Leeds knew his time had come! After missing out on promotion last season, Leeds will be desperate for a top two finish come May. The Whites have the worst record in the entire football league in the play-offs and will not want to go through that again. Their performances thus far have been disjointed; and are yet to click into gear. They do not look like top 2 contenders, even though the depth of squad would tell you otherwise. please log in to view this image Next 5 games will be crucial Daniel Farke's Championship pedigree is what is keeping Leeds fans onside for now, but that can change pretty quickly. The next five games will be crucial (Coventry City home, Norwich away, Sunderland away, Sheffield Utd home and Watford home). If we are to be seen as title contenders, Leeds need to find some form - and fast! Finishing 3rd-6th is no good for us; we need top two! This being the case we need to be winning 80% of these games! How many points can you see in our next five games? please log in to view this image
Morning all I am going to try and remain positive today and enjoy the three points against a team that we have come unstuck against a few times. Coventry have not been great this season, Norwich and Sunderland away in the space of three days will be the real test
Much will depend on whether we score first in most games, particularly against those teams who automatically park the bus, once in front. I don’t worry over much, when we’re facing the supposedly better teams. We owe Coventry big style for last season.
Everyone should just chill out. The only game that we haven't dominated this season is West Brom away and we held them at arms length pretty comfortably. I don't think we've really hit form yet either. We should have won the other games. Some of it is down to poor finishing but there has been a large slice of bad luck along the way too. It is what it is until January when we can hopefully rectify the missed chances if they continue. Hopefully Joseph can get on a run of goals and he can get some confidence about him. If not, I genuinely feel Piroe could play up front as a 9 with the Gnonto, Ramazani and Aaronson making the runs in behind. This time last season we had 9 points. We've currently got 11 points.
This is where Farke needs to earn his money, use Piroe but don't ask or expect him to do the things he isn't good at. Don't bother trying to coach him to be something he is not, they have attempted that playing him at 10, it doesn't work, It never will, play him at 9 and let him play his natural game.
Piroe is the best finisher we've got period....he ain't going to run around like a blue d fly, the majority of his strikes are on target when he's given the chance he doesn't miss many surely his ratio for shots/goals is up there...up to herr farke to solve the situation... perhaps Matteo jo is being slightly asked to carry a heavier weight than is necessary
After the Bamford fiasco I would have thought someone would have had words about the way you celebrate a goal
But that would mean everyone would have to stand perfectly still and not move a muscle after every goal, given how easily Paddy manages to pick up an injury
As always whenever someone states an opinion that can be factually checked, then I like to do so. I was surprised at how close the figures were, as I would have easily agreed with oldschool. Piroe scored exactly the same amount of goals from the same amount of shots as Dan James last season. Both had 83 shots and each scored 13 goals. So 15.66% of their shots were actually goals. Gnonto had the best return of goals/shots last season, scoring 8 goals from 47 shots, for a return of 17.02%. Summerville was next, having 123 shots and scoring 19 goals, for a return of 15.45%. Bamford had 53 shots and scored 8 goals for a return of 15.09%. To compare that with Piroe, for Bamford to have scored 13 goals last season, he would have needed to take 86 shots, 3 more than Piroe, on a statistical basis at least. However that is data just based on one season. Over the past 5 seasons, Piroe has just over a 2% better return than Gnonto, and just under a 3% return better than Bamford. Bamford on average would have needed 14 shots a season more than Piroe, to score the same amount of goals, or an extra shot approx. once every 3 games Note - The heading in the second part of the table should read 57 not 59, as I had mistakenly initially included 2 goals Piroe scored in the reserves whilst at PSV, and I only wanted to count 1st team league appearances
I didn't expect a microscopic analysis to tell me I could possibly be overstating his 'stats' or his goals/shot ratio but I should have realised our forum has a quirky deep diving mine of information ....my bad for thinking that Mr piroe wasn't the best finisher at the club....but I still think he is sooooo what ya gonna do about it punk..eh well what ...see you at tombstone for a shootout, hope your stats are on point
As I said when I read your post, I would have agreed with you I also thought by now that everyone would have realised that if there is an opinion that can be factually checked, then I''ll turn up sooner rather than later. At least this is a good way of finding out at least ONE person who doesn't normally read my in depth statistical analysis posts that have littered this forum over the past how ever many years As for checking the validity of my stats, you are more than welcome to visit and go through 35 years of notebooks and spreadsheets, as funnily enough I don't get many visitors these days I should point out that Google Gemini AI disagrees with us both . Don't think AI will be taking over the world this week at least ChatGPT did do slightly better though, but still not enough for me to worry about
Well you are right about not reading your in depth statistical analysis on a regular basis ... not that I don't think you are correct in the figures you seem to relish in bestowing on the great unwashed it's just that I find just reading the 'everyday ups and downs of our contributors, more than enough to bring a thumbs up or down from me' without filling my head with err well stats ...go figure
Well you will have a very large back catalogue of Aski stats posts to catch up on, in the forthcoming dark, wet, wintery months, when you are stuck inside and looking for something to fill your time, or send you to sleep
