It's Monday 19th September, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road Leeds youngsters destroy Saints A crowd of over 10,000 turned up to watch Leeds U21's destroy Southampton on Friday night and keep their unbeaten start to the season intact. Due to the recent postponements and International Break, Jesse Marsch allowed Messrs Bamford, Cooper, Ayling and Firpo to take part as they regain their fitness following injury, and on the whole, they didn't disappoint. Having already had a goal disallowed, Bamford opened the floodgates on four minutes, after great work from Summerville. His unselfish cutback, tee'd the Leeds No 9 up beautifully as his first time shot cannoned in, off the crossbar. Summervile turned goalscorer for Leeds second on 17 minutes. He nicked the ball off a Saints' defender midway through their half, danced past three defenders, then beat the keeper at his far post. Bamford got his second, and Leeds third from the penalty spot on the half hour mark, after Summerville was upended in the penalty area, following great build up play from Gyabi. Cooper completed the first half rout, just before half-time. Gray's inswinging corner found the Leeds skipper unmarked, giving him time to direct his looping header past the hapless Saints keeper. Leeds continued their fine form into the second half, and were soon rewarded with a fifth. Summerville robbed Saints of possession, and ran halfway down the pitch before releasing the ball to Bamford, who slotted under the keeper, before celebrating his hat trick. Perkins added a sixth three minutes later, (his sixth in five games) with a fabulous solo effort. To Southampton's credit, they never game up; and were rewarded for their hard work with two late consolation gals, but it was too little too late, the night belonged to Leeds Utd. please log in to view this image Bamford reprimands Gyabi During the U21 post match Interview, hat trick hero Patrick Bamford told LUTV how he had to reprimand Darko Gyabi during their 6-2 victory over Southampton. As one of the more senior statesman of the team, Bamford has been given the responsibility to pass down his experience and knowledge to the younger players. During the Brentford game, Bamford could be seen passing on instructions to Gelhardt, and he didn't hold back with Gyabi either. The one time England marksman was frustrated that Gyabi wasn't physical enough, and told him in no uncertain terms to put his foot through the ball, and get some challenges in. “I try to help them as much as I can, even if it means I had a go at Darko on the pitch.” “I get on really well with him in the changing room, so he took it well, but I told him: ‘Sometimes you’ve got to put your foot through it and put a tackle in.’ “As I said, it’s part of the learning curve for all of them. These games, we come down to help them, but hopefully, we can show them what they need to do in some ways.” please log in to view this image Leeds have learnt lesson from Brentford drubbing Adam Forshaw believes Leeds have learnt a valuable lesson following their 5 - 2 drubbing at Brentford a fortnight ago. The veteran midfielder was talking with BBC Radio 5 Live, recalling how they started the season 'like a house on fire', only to have their confidence zapped out of them after picking up a solidary point from their last three games:- “We started like an absolute house on fire. Obviously the Chelsea game made us think ‘Here we go!’, gave us some real belief by beating one of the top six. “That positivity was filtered down from Jesse [Marsch], he’s such a positive guy but then we had a bad week just before the break in games. “We only got a point from three, we played Brighton away, Everton at home and then Brentford away. “Listen – there’s no easy games at all but going into that full of confidence, it was a disappointing week for us. “Conceding five away in that last one obviously wasn’t what we wanted to do but we’ve learnt a lot from it and have a chance to rectify it.” please log in to view this image
Morning guys. Great work Ell. Must be tough to find anything for a morning thread at the moment. I think we'll all be glad once the football returns for us in a couple of weeks time. We need a win against a shaky Villa side to regain a bit of momentum. Football is all about confidence and although performances have been good we haven't really kicked on results wise from the Chelsea result. The good news is that Bamford came through the reserve game unscathed and looking good. Gnonto might offer us something different from the bench. Ayling and Cooper have had time to regain their fitness which would be an improvement on Dramah/Kristensen and Llorente. Sinisterra will have worked on his fitness after his hamstring strain and on the whole the whole squad has had time to perfect Jesse's tactics. Hopefully we aren't too rusty and we see off Villa and go on another run. Some winnable games coming up in October. Villa (h) Palace (a) Arsenal (h) Leicester (a) Fulham (h) Possibly Liverpool at home too.
Will Jesse have time to work with the players? Sure I read that we have 17 going off on international duty this break?
We last played on the 3rd September. I'd say he's had a good amount of time with the squad since then.
Gnonto touches from Friday. Note how he is two footed, lovely weight on his passes with either foot. Decent pace. Most impressively for me is his ability to suck three or four defenders in and then play the ball to a teammate taking those defenders out of the game. Impressive.

Summerville for me, was awesome. He set up Bamford's first and third, when he could have gone alone, and won Bamford his penalty. Gnorbo showed great maturity, and never gave the ball away cheaply. The Senior players could learn by this. I though Gyabi was good, yes he needs to mature, and it can only benefit him by having Senior players around him, telling him what he's doing wrong.
mancini said what impressed was his pace and his football IQ for his age. Re pace… I think with guys like him it’s less about straight line 100m pace and more about quick feet, low centre of gravity and acceleration over a few yards to get cross in, shot in etc. Great that he looked sharp. I’m sure he understands the lie of the land but he left Milan for Zurich because he wanted to play, so apart from the $, he’ll be hoping for some game time… we have a few ambitious youngsters to keep happy.
