Good Morning. It's Friday 5th August, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road

Leeds chasing £10m rated Marseille forward

Leeds are among a host of top flight clubs interested in Marseille forward Bamba Dieng according to recent media reports. The versatile 22yo forward has tremendous close ball control, and pace to burn. During his breakthrough season last year, he netted seven times in 30 appearances, and has become a first team regular for the Senegal International team.

It was rumoured that Dieng turned down moves to West Ham and Newcastle in January, but since the arrival of new head coach Igor Tudor a month ago, his opportunities during pre-season have been limited. Newcastle United, Everton, Wolves, Crystal Palace and West Ham are among his admirers.

Forest open negotiations with Leeds target

Nottingham Forest have reportedly opened negotiations with Leeds target Che Adams. The South Coast striker has fallen down the pecking order since the recent arrival of Sekou Mara from Bordeaux (for £11m).
The Scotsman scored 8 goals in 33 Premier League appearances last season for Southampton, and was second top goalscorer behind James Ward Prowse.

Whilst Adams' work rate is impressive, his goal tally since arriving from Birmingham City in 2019 lacks consistency. Leeds attempted to sign the 26yo during the 2020 January transfer window, but Hasenhüttl refused to play ball. Leeds ended up signing Jean Kevin Augustin instead!

Footballers will no longer be taking the knee before every game

The Premier League have announced that players will no longer routinely take a knee before every kick-off. The announcement was made after a number of clubs expressed that the gesture no longer carried the same weight as it did two years ago, following the unlawful death of George Floyd.

Instead, taking a knee will only take place during special events such as the Carabao Cup finals, Boxing Day games or the FA Cup

In a statement, the Premier League said: "Ahead of the new season, Premier League club captains have reaffirmed their commitment to fighting racism and all forms of discrimination." "The players have decided to use specific moments during the upcoming campaign to take the knee, to amplify the message that racism has no place in football or society.

"The Premier League supports the players' decision and, alongside the clubs, will use these opportunities to elevate anti-racism messaging as part of the League's No Room for Racism Action Plan." "We remain resolutely committed to eradicate racial prejudice, and to bring about an inclusive society with respect and equal opportunities for all,"

    Morning all

I’ve got to say, I’ve enjoyed the break. Last season was draining, fingers crossed for a less fretful season ahead.

A disgrace that Orta hasn’t secured us a striker of sorts, we never brought in the marquee signing but I knew we wouldn’t.

A transfer window that started all guns blazing then that sudden halt as we chased CDK the media and fans alike knew he wasn’t signing but Orta continued to waste time.

I know the windows not closed for a while, but I can’t help feeling the powers that be are waiting to see what kind of a start we get off to.

Three points on the board would be a humongous start but would Orta and co be lured into a false sense of security?

Lack of cash in the bank could be hampering the attempts to sign a striker. Remember we would still have likely got nothing from Barca and have that 20m to fork out for big Kev. With clubs being cash strapped post Covid, they may not be as keen to do the five year finance plans when it comes to top players

    Morning

The striker rumours are boring me now. I wish the tranny window closed before the season started so we could just focus on the football.

Hopefully Bamford and Joffy hit the ground running with goal contributions from Harrison, Aaronson, Sinisterra and James.

Listening to Phil Hay this morning after his chat with Radz, we had £35m on the table for CDK and a deal agreed with Brugge. We still have that money available for the right player

In Marsch's presser yesterday he said one more in next week but reading between the lines later in the interview, I think that could be a keeper

But did we have 35 up front or 5 staggered payments of 7m?

Radz told Hay the Raphinha sale funded the purchases and the Phillips deal was cash in the bank. The £35m for CDK was sitting there and the player had options not only with Milan but other clubs and he knew Leeds had the better wage package for him. He said he was torn but in the end CL in Milan swung it. Radz said he wished he had gone over to speak to the player again and in hindsight wasted a couple of weeks. The cash is still there for the right player and we are keeping our options open for the right fit? So that says all the buys have been done on 3 year terms so far

Yep and me. Time to see if Joffy / Greenwood / Perkins can step up and whether VO has earned his corn with them.

You couldn't have used any other photo Elland. The knee thing was bad enough, but the racist salute aswell. Imagine bringing back the sieg heil in the Southstand, just for equality and inclusion purposes of course.
