Good Morning. It's Friday 27th August, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road Leeds turn down Winks loan move Phil Hay has disclosed that Leeds have turned down the opportunity to take Spurs midfielder Harry Winks on loan. He may not be in the best form of his life, but with ten full England caps to his name, the 25yo could have been Leeds missing piece of the jigsaw should he rediscover his form. please log in to view this image Orta v Bielsa High tension between Leeds Director of Football Victor Orta and Marcelo Bielsa are well documented. Their passionate temperaments spill over on a regular basis, though when the screaming dies down, they are back to being best of friends! Phil Hay has opened up and disclosed some of the goings on behind the scenes between the fiery duo! During the 2020 January transfer window, Leeds were looking for a new striker, after Eddie Nketiah opted to return to his parent club Arsenal! Orta quickly identified Glenn Murray and Billy Sharp, both of which were available for transfer, but Bielsa vetoed them both. Instead, they ended up with Jean Kevin Augustin (and a 20m invoice). Hay insinuates that Leeds had the chance to sign Noa Lang for joining Club Brugge. Whilst Leeds Director of Football Victor Orta had a 'constant craving' for Lang, Bielsa was not so keen. The 22yo went on to sign permanently (previously on loan) with Club Bruges for just over 5m. The Belgium outfit have now slapped a 30m price tag on Lang according to the YEP yesterday! This is odd as we (the Leeds fans) were led to believe that Club Brugge has an option to buy Lang! Orta too, identified Matheus Cunha as a top target earlier in the Summer, but the Argentine was not interested. The Brazilian International has just completed a 25m move to Spanish Champions Atletico Madrid. Perhaps Bielsa thought he wasn't worth the money! Bielsa doesn't have it all his own way. Orta insisted on buying Llorente, and thank goodness he did! please log in to view this image Cooper could have seen red Ex-Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher believes Liam Cooper was lucky not to get red carded last weekend during his tussle with Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the Leeds penalty area. Ultimately, the England forward was not in possession of the ball, which saved the Leeds skipper from an early bath! Gallagher told Sky Sports: "Could he have seen red for this? Possibly. I think what's saved him is that the ref felt [Calvert-Lewin] was not in possession of the ball." "But if Cooper had been sent off for denying a goal scoring opportunity, I do not think he could have had a lot of cause for complaint." "Without doubt, Cooper wraps his arms around Calvert-Lewin but Bamford is going into Mina; I think they are both culpable." please log in to view this image
Morning all… I’ve felt all along it was Bielsa saying no to Noa Lang. The lad is far from humble and has attitude problems that are far worse than Pontus. When you hear stories that Bielsa pulled the plug on Benrhama because of holiday pictures which reflected greed and excess and a non humble side you just knew it wasn’t going to happen. We need to enjoy the ride now but keep this insight in mind when it comes to life after Bielsa because I wonder if the next coach will have such a say on signings, if he doesn’t he better be able to handle a few characters. In regards to Winks we have a handful of our own players looking for form so we certainly don’t need someone else’s. The only way for Winks to gain form is to play and the way Bielsa operates and insists on certain criteria being met he’d be lucky to get a game before Christmas. With a reasonable option (and prior agreed fee) to buy maybe, but straight loan no thank you. After what Bielsa did for Ben White and Brighton, teams should be paying us to take their players on loan. If Ben White had been loaned anywhere else he’d have just been on the continuous merry go round of being loaned out, Brighton would never have brought out his skills.
Morning all, I have said previously that if we could get Winks that would be a good signing but I meant that as a permanent transfer not a loan.
Morning all Just to clear up the Noa Lang bit which is screwed up in the above piece. Noa Lang came through Ajax academy and we all saw at first hand just how good players are that come through that academy. Lang made it through into Ajax first team because of his undoubted talent. He was winning some games single handedly but not following instructions and upset his manager. He also upset the first team captain and then in training ran rings around the skipper making him look like a spaz and Lang went and did it all again. He was then sent out on loan to Club Brugge to teach him a lesson. There was a €6m buy option inserted into the contract. Noa Lang realised he needed to grow up and whilst at Brugge did that and was having a great season for them. He was turning out to be the best player in Belgium and Ajax decided to bring him back at the end of the loan, simply because he was scoring goals for fun and creating assists for his teammates. At the end of the season Club Brugge took action on the contract at bought him for peanuts. Ajax could do nothing about it and the day after they signed him the manager said he knew the club were going to sell him and double their money. Because there was a lot of interest in Lang the club increased his value to £15m, then £20m and £25m and earlier this week took it to £30m. Ajax are fuming, but they should have handled him better as he was a precocious talent. Maybe why Leeds refused to have a buy clause in Povedas loan contract
As for Cooper. Wouldn't the double jeopardy rule come in for the challenge? The penalty was given so no need for a red ie double punishment? While I think it was definitely a penalty any football fan would be angry to see a red given against them there but a lot would certainly call for one
The thing about VAR and how it was used against Cooper, seemed to be wrong as it only showed the last bitin slow motion. The ref was only showed the one clip from the one camera. Surely VAR should be used to look at all camera angles available and if that had happened and the ref showed all clips then he would have aid no penalty. DCL instigated the original foul on Cooper by grabbing him and then his shirt, it was then Cooper trying to free himself and then DCL let go at the last second leaving Cooper with an arm around him. It should have been a Leeds free kick in reality
Spot on Doc. Also Cooper must have muscles like popeye to make the everton lad fall to the ground like that.
A nice white background with a yellow trim would set it off nicely. (oooooh I'm going all Llewelyn Bowen). Maybe we could contact him to get it changed.

That's a fair point and may be a lot of the reason the ref let it go in real time. While var has, overall, shown itself to be better this season so far one of the biggest issues with it is still the fact that a lot of things look worse when being slowed down. Just because things look worse in slow motion does that make the original decision a clear and obvious error? This is the only time var should be
Number 13...........Just off to Man City for 60 million.....byeeeeeeeeeeee. Only messing, great read Gessa.
Not necessarily. Double jeopardy only comes into play if the ref thinks that a genuine attempt to play the ball is made. If he thinks Cooper just pulled him back (I’m not saying Cooper did, but the ref if even wrongly gave a penalty) to stop him scoring he should be sent off.
Only if the officials thought the fouled player was denied a goal scoring opportunity. So the question they had to ask themselves was; Would Calvert Lewin have reached the ball without the foul ? Seems like they weren't sure so Cooper got a yellow.
