Good Morning. It's Friday 26th August, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road

    Leeds face competition for Gakpo

Leeds face stiff competition from Manchester Utd, and a race against time to sign Cody Gakpo from PSV, before the transfer window slams shut next week. It was believed that the Dutch ace was set to stay with the Eredivisie outfit this season, but following their humiliating exit from the Champions League on Wednesday night at the hands of Rangers (at the play off stages), the 23yo is once again exploring his options.

Over his 27 appearances last season, he netted 12 times and created 13 assists. It is understood he could be available for between £25m - £30m, though earlier in the Summer, his valuation was a lot higher.

Marsch has missed Cooper's leadership qualities

Speaking on the club's Youtube channel, Leeds Manager Jesse Marsch has reserved special praise for Leeds skipper Liam Cooper. Coops, (31 next week) missed the entire pre-season program with an Achilles injury, but having completed 45 minutes against Barnsley midweek, is available for selection. March describes the Scottish International not only as a leader, but has the best mentality he has seen:-

“Diego and Robin have done well. I told Liam before yesterday he hasn’t trained much but when he does return from injury, he plays flawlessly. “In terms of mentality, a professional, a leader, he is the best I’ve ever seen. He will be used, he will be needed.”

    Marsch defends midweek brawl

Jesse Marsch has defended his team for playing their part in the second half brawl midweek, which saw Cody Drameh and Leo Hjelde booked. There's no love lost between the Whites, and neighbours Barnsley as the match threatened to boil over on 67 minutes. Although it is not known what was said, former academy prospect Liam Kitching shoved Drameh. Hjelde was then seen running full pelt in Kitching's direction, and before long 22 players were at it! Refeshingly, Marsch 'loved it', and praised the camaraderie of his players, insisting it was great to see the players had each others backs:-

“Loved it,” “To be fair, they all stood up for each other, but didn't cross the line. It's really important everybody has each other's back. “I know there are these mass confrontation things and referees are trying to avoid all this, but for me, part of being a team is making sure you have each other's back. I thought that was great.”

“Cody did nothing to deserve the reaction, but Cody stood up for himself and the team stood up for him. No punches were thrown, nothing stupid was done in the process. “It was just a group showing total solidarity and commitment to each other. So this kind of stuff for me is important.

I do feel we will have a late transfer arrival, I just hope it isn't at the expense of Jack or Dan. Regarding the brawl, more like waving handbags

Marsch being diplomatic explains that Cooper is leader but will not start against Brighton. Koch and Llorente have been good and Cooper will have to wait his chance. Thats how it should be if you have a good squad, unless you have an exceptional talent coming back from injury. So far our squad is way better than last season…

If you mean the white kit it's awful. It looks like chelsea/everton away kit. Those three blue stripes on the shoulders are rank.

    Hi Mike
WG did come on last night to help Zurich into the next round of the Champions League at the expense of Hearts, but noidea how he played.

i dont think the Gnonto transfer will happen because Zurich want double his value and suspect we will get him on a freebie next summer. I think besides the fee they ask for theres also the problem of appeasing Joffy if an 18yo moves ahead of him in the pecking order. Getting him next summer will have allowed Joffy to establish himself… or not. Marsch himself said Gnonto is one for the future but so too is Sonny Perkins and Mateo Joseph Fernandez. Its all about finding the right player who will fit into the existing set up without rocking the boat

    Morning all

Let's start on Gapko and I don't think it will happen. I don't think it was ever going to happen it was just a cover story to get Sinni over the line.

I agree with Ristac and we'll bring someone in. My reckoning is that it will be Hwang at Wolves. There's a photo of him and Jesse hugging. From what I understand the move has been green lighted and he wants to join us. I don't think James will leave either. It would be stupid to get rid of him unless Spurs offers us a recent RW in return.

There's 6 days left to this window and 3 of them are on a bank holiday weekend. 3 days to identify a replacement and bring them in who is good enough. We're gonna have to pay silly money for that.

    It's hard to tell.

He's very small; only 5ft 6', not sure if he has the endurance for the Premier League.

Gyabi turns in MoM performances for the 21s but big jump to first team. Expect him on the bench at times but ….
