Good Morning. It's Friday 20th January, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road Gnonto chant must stop The Football Association and discrimination group 'Kick it Out' have warned sections of the Leeds Utd faithful that racist chanting will not be tolerated. It relate's to a song which is gathering pace on the Elland Road terraces regarding Willy Gnonto, and the size of his genitalia:- “Willy Gnonto, Willy Gnonto / He eats spaghetti / He drinks Moretti / His c*ck’s fu***ng massive.” A week ago, Jesse Marsch pleaded with the Elland Road faithful to either change the lyrics or refrain from singing it, yet it's fallen on deaf ears, as it was heard loud and clear on Wednesday night, when Leeds thumped Cardiff 5-2. As a club, Leeds have cleaned up their act in the last couple of decades, and more and more families are replacing the young working class males that dominated the terraces in the 80's and 90's. These are sensitive times. Some may see it as just a bit of banter, but the reality of the situation is, this kind of behaviour is no longer tolerated in football grounds. At best, its crass, and in its lowest form, highly offensive, Xenophobia and unacceptable. Are people over reacting? It this just a bit of fun? If you pay your money, should you be able to sing what you what; it's a free Country at the end of day? According to Kick It Out:- "While we believe the majority of fans singing this chant are not doing so with racist intent, we would stress that racial stereotypes are harmful and offensive, irrespective of the intention to show support for a player." An FA spokesperson added: "We strongly condemn any offensive, abusive and discriminatory chants in stadiums and are determined to stamp this behaviour out." "It must stop, and we support any club and their fans who try to eradicate this from the terraces." "We urge fans to show support with family-friendly language. We will be working closely with Leeds to ensure action is taken." please log in to view this image Latics winning race for Gelhardt Now few than six Championship outfits have joined the race to sign Joe Gelhardt on loan until the end of the season. He has been allowed to leave following the signing of £36m capture of Georginio Rutter. It is hoped that regular first team football will help in his development, and he'll rediscover his goal scoring form. Former club Wigan Athletic are favourites to sign the 20yo, but with West Brom also entering the fray, he's still up for grabs please log in to view this image Cresswell permanent transfer rumour gathering pace Rumours of Charlie Cresswell being sold this transfer window are gathering pace. He is halfway through a season long loan at the Den, but has not seen first team action since December 3rd last year. As highly talented at Cressy is in his age group, the Elland Road hierarchy are losing patience and considering bids for him. Big things are expected from Cresswell, with many fans seeing him as a future Captain and mainstay fixture at Elland Road for many seasons to come. Selling him at this point in his fledgling career makes absolutely no sense at all, even if they were to negotiate a healthy sell-on fee. TA have spent over eight years nurturing, and molding him into a potential future England player, so why give up on him now? Victor Orta is lining up a bid to bring teen sensation Diogo Monteiro to Elland Road. The Portuguese centre-back turns 18yo in a few weeks, and Leeds are ready to pounce. “Right now, he’s out of the team and sitting on the bench. And with expressions of interest from a couple of Millwall’s divisional rivals in a permanent move for the young centre-back, there are some decisions to make. Leeds are yet to recall him and won’t, until such a time as a concrete offer is made that meets their valuation and meets with the approval of Cresswell and his advisors.” please log in to view this image
Morning all The chant is just ****ing cringe. A group of blokes singing about a teenagers cock. If he was a few years younger then it wouldn't even be thought about. And before somebody makes a comment Lennon was 15 when he made his debut for us. Joffy goes back to Wigan on loan.... Good for him. Cresswell being sold looks more and more likely as rumours have it the young Portuguese lad from Servette has all but signed and the club is waiting till he turns 18 to sign the deal also there's talk of him and his father having a tour of ER yesterday.
Have to be honest, I’ve not really seen enough of Cresswell to know if the club are making the right decision. But surely he’s got the potential to better than most if not all of the current centre backs?
Morning all. Should you be able to sing what you want at a football match. No there has to be boundaries. Is it a bit of fun, no it’s stereotype racism, admittedly very mild. We have to move with the times good and bad like it or not. Kids getting the cane in school, you’d never accept that now. Some might feel it should still happen, go back far enough and I bet there were many who disagreed that kids should no longer be sent up chimneys to clean them. I think back to the late 70s early 80s and it was acceptable to slap a woman’s arse in an office. Freddy Starr, Jim Davidson and a good few others vanished from the screen because they refused to move with the times. I saw both live a few times, I loved them, I watch old clips and I see why it’s not acceptable now Smoking on a plane or in a restaurant was quite recently acceptable, not any longer. The club has asked for it to stop, the FA and Kick It Out have said it’s racist, we have to accept that, continue and face a punishment is the alternative If it were a women’s match and the fans were singing she has massive tits or a tight pussy would it be acceptable Cresswell, in my head, I think he has to be better than what we have then I look at the guy who’s keeping him out at Millwall and think how would I feel if we signed him. Personally, I’d move on one of Struijk, Llorente or Koch and bring back Cresswell to replace them
The kid has meant to have great potential however he's been hit and miss at Millwall. I think the board has been looking at his time at The Den and decided he's not worth taking forward. The fact they're looking elsewhere for another CB shows it. However this Portuguese kid is meant to be a talented player.
Morning all The Gnonto chant is funnier if the cock bit is changed to something sensible that rhymes for a start. However I get sick of all the liberal luvvies lecturing footy fans about what they can sing at matches. These were the same people who called fans booing at taking the knee as racist, these were the same people calling Spurs fans racist and anti Jew for chanting “Yid Army”. Fks sake they were singing about themselves. Not many loan moves have worked for our players in the last few seasons. Most of the players we never see again and most are now playing lower down the EFL pyramid. Remeber we had bright shiny players expected to do big things like Bogusz, Caprile, Hugo Diaz, Kun, Mujica, Amor and in the EFL Odour, Gotts, Edmondson, Stevens, Clarke, Jenkins, McCarron, McKinstry, Shackelton. This season we also have the likes of Poveda, Roberts and James struggling elsewhere
I think I said this previously. The chant’s just awful. Irrespective of the stereotype, which ristac has summed up well above, the best terrace chants are: funny and original. This is not funny, and stolen… it doesn’t even scan. They should stop for the reasons Ristac says, but if that’s not a good enough reason for them they should stop because it’s ****.
Some good points… singing about posh spice’s sexual preferences was fair enough though, obviously. If our fans started singing about tight pussies, Radrizzani might take offence.
I think this whole chant saga says more about certain members of our fan base. Yes it's bloody awful and unoriginal. The fact they're playing on stereotypes 'Drinks Moretti and eats Spaghetti' is bad enough. I'm surprised they haven't mentioned Dolmio. The Aaronson chant they stole off Estelle isn't original either. If I'm being truthful this whole thing reminds me of the Linford Christie controversy in the 90s which was basically about the same thing. People need to get into the 21st century. Times have changed get over it. If people don't like players taking the knee then don't go to the game simple as that. People need to stop watching GB News and reading the Daily Mail to get with the modern age.
Mate, I don't read newspapers. I studied Journalism at University and learned to avoid the print press because of political bias. I get my information from a wide range of sources. Maybe you should stop ****ing off Dan Wootton before you tell me I'm lecturing people.
… to include dolmio they’d have to have come up with something themselves. If they insist on stealing spurs chant they should replace the last line with ‘he finds the net, he’s’ then it takes you back to ‘… Willy Gnonto’ Good clean family fun. Though there is probably a Net protection society somewhere that would be offended by the implied nettism.
If you're referring to my political beliefs then I wouldn't be using my education as a starting point. I come from a long line of Socialists. My dad is a member of the Labour Party and my Great Grandfather was a Labour Mayor for Bury Council. Regarding my education yes I went to University to learn Journalism and yes I learned how the press filter information for the public but that never painted my Political views.
Yet you slur everyone who watches GB News which actually has more viewers than BBC News, Sky, ITV, CH4 which tends to suggest that the majority of the population doesn’t get served by the media in this country. This is a football forum now turned into a politics rant.
Nah mate I've not made a political rant. I've expressed my opinion, Once again you've mentioned Left Wing Luvvies and taking the Knee. This is how debate works. I let you sprout what you think and you should let me do the same. It's called public discourse. I may disagree with what you believe in but I believe you have the right to say it if you let me have the right to express my beliefs. THE END
How's this for you..... 'Willy Gnonto, Willy Gnonto He likes to eat Dolmio He watches Power Rangers Zeo He's the greatest Italian player since Baggio It's little Willy Gnonto'
