Was reading on trg about Chelsea's on loan players, so went a hunting.

At present Chelsea have 19 players out on loan, from the likes of Victor Moses, to Christian Atsu...most of them are full International players.

At one point last season, between Chelsea, Man U, Arsenal and Liverpool, there was 70 players out on loan..


What do you all make of the loan system, and is there anyways it should be changed?
 
That's ridiculous, they buy young players then we all make them better so they can ultimately charge us a fortune if we want to buy them. Anyway that stops this would be a positive, it's suits the top 4 teams and increases the gap between us and them. It also gives them greater power.
 
Bang on, Micko. Arsene Wenger has been doing this for ten years or more. He trains kids to plat 'the Arsenal way'. Those who play that way get moved up - and invariably fit like a glove. Those who don't fit - like, say, Stokes - get farmed out until someone takes a fancy to them and then they are sold. The income from those transfers helps to finance the development of the kids who do play 'the Arsenal way'.

Is it any wonder that Arsenal are successful? And is it any wonder that Poyet wants a similar system with our Academy? Tell me, is Wenger bright, or just bright?
 
Well, we're all in on it - the academy system- just some are better than others.

What would be interesting to know is how much utd, city, arse, Chelsea and pool have paid for their (international) young uns, who are then farmed out on loan to gain experience and ultimately up their value.

...and how many of their youth players have made it in the league in the last 5 years

City: Richards, ??
Chelsea: Lukaku, Bertrand, ??
lPool: Flanagan, Shelvey, ??
Utd: Cleverley (kind of), Welbeck, Evans, ??
Arse: Wilshere, Jenkinson, Gibbs, ??
Southampton: Shaw, Lallana, Chambers, The Ox, Walcott, ??

I have no idea if financial fair play reduces ' player hoarding' at youth level....
 
What would happen if loaning players was banned?
Would it spread the talent around more as players wouldn't want to waste their best years sitting on the bench?
Would it stabilise teams? (think of Ki, Borini playing the hokey cokey....are they in , out?)
Loaning weakens you if you cant field some of your better players as they are ineligible.
There are loads of ramifications
 
Maybe all loan players should have a buy clause in the contract with a price set by the FA. At least if they were a success there would be a chance to buy
 
you should only be able to loan out so many players.

this would force clubs to play the ones they have, or sell them.

chelsea buy young players hoping they'll work out, and some of them don't, but the ones that do, some never or barely play for the club. they farm them out until they appreciate in value, and sell them, to buy more young players to repeat the cycle.

it makes brilliant business sense, but it's hardly in the spirit of things! it's not football, it's asset management.
 
Thing is we've benefited from it massively too. Loaning Henderson out improved his game and we ended up selling an academy product for £16m.

One thing id like banning is when teams buy a player then loan him straight out.
How funny would it be if the mags went down and those two lads helped forest get promoted?

There should maybe be a rule about how many times a player can go on loan whilst at a club.

Christian Atsu is a good example. He'd have been a tremendous signing for someone but Chelsea bought him when they didnt need him. Salah looks like the same.
 
Well I would ban all loans between same league teams.
I can't see any problem loaning out young players to lower leagues to give them game time and get experience.

But we know better than most that loan players have stopped us forming a team.
It's too easy for managers to say I won't make big efforts to fill the gaping hole in my team, as I can get someone from another team who can do trhe job.
Then the loanee goes back home and we still have a gaping hole.

Its like putting a bandaid on a leak in a submarine.

The rich teams buying players and loaning them straight out is more difficult.
This is where the footballers should be standing up for themselves.
