Just got this off Twitter, what a disgrace the club are. They take over the stadium lease and then start neglecting the maintenance work. The steel work is shocking, they had better get a grip on it before this gets beyond repair.
It does look bad, looking extremely in poor condition with significant corrosion on the beams and attachment points. Preventative maintenance obviously isn't in the yanks vocabulary.
You will understand this more than others, imagine that being a pylon, it’s wouldn’t last for years to come. If they do t get to grips with this sooner than later, then it’s not just a clean, treatment & paint, but beam replacement and major structural problems.
One other point, the club are duty bound to do the upkeep on the stadium as part of them taking over full control of the stadium. So why aren’t the council taken them to book on this, after all it’s their property.
I agree , the Grid paid the price ( the customers rather ) from not having a robust policy , painting above ground was fine to an extent but that's only as goods as the preparation and frequency, without it then its major refurbishment and that could be where we're heading ,an award winning pitch but no games because of the stadium deteriorating to the extent that the Club becomes unlicensed to hold events . I have to add that this hasn't been a gradual process but we're now seeing just how rapid corrosion can take hold.
Probably cheap Chinese steel with cheap powder coating ? If down to the yanks they'll probably get obblers in to sort it with cordless grinders and hammerite off ladders ! If council then money no object cos it's ours !
More often it’s just galvanised steel, then use an epoxy weatherproof coating. The coating will breakdown over time, I would expect to start the re painting after ten years. The issue now would that the coating has gone and this exposed the galvanise but given that the air will have a salt content, this will attack the steel and it ends up like it is now and will get worse. What’s shocking is obviously the club don’t have a maintenance plan. You would have thought the council would be knocking on the door, to insist they looked after their asset.
I wouldn’t know, it’s not my area of expertise (may come as a shock to some of you, that I actually have one - shut up Nev) But would the salty sea air have anything to do with the corrosion- especially if the right sealer / undercoat hadn’t been applied (by a factory that didn’t know where Swansea was?) Looks like it needs a rub down then a touch of hammerite? *wheres me ladder I’ll give it a go for £50
Well they have plenty of time now to get it sorted, now that it looks like no fans will not be returning to the stadium anytime soon.
Did I here right today that they don’t think fans will be allowed into stadium until at least March if at all this season.
