No real point here, just something for ya to read.....or not.... KEVIN Phillips pauses for a moment. Heâs just ruled out ever donning the famous red and white again but when the impact of golden oldies Paul Scholes and Thierry Henry is pointed out, itâs almost as if a switch is flicked in his head. Thirty-eight-years-old and still among the top scorers in a very competitive Championship, âSuper Kevâ has long since learned to discount accepted wisdoms. If heâd listened to the experts heâd have called it a day long ago â and he certainly wouldnât have accepted the challenge of helping Blackpool to regroup after their Premier League dream ended with a rude awakening at Old Trafford. He is a model professional, though â and a gentleman to boot. Still regarded as the best trainer at Blackpool by boss Ian Holloway, he has long disproved the notion that strikers should be nestled in a TV studio somewhere by the time they drift past 35. Henry and Scholes might be an inspiration, but in many ways the former England man paved the way for them by extending his own prolific goalscoring well into his thirties. So the prospect of returning to the Stadium of Light for one last hurrah in a region where he still revered by the public? It might yet happen, one way or another. âWell, when you put it that way . . . I suppose you never say never in football,â he admits. âIf that call came, Iâd think about it. I think the closest I came to returning was in 2006 when Niall Quinn made the approach, but I said at the time that I didnât really want to sour the memories that the Sunderland fans have of me. âI didnât think it ever really went well, going back to a club where youâd done well in the past. I just wanted to keep my time there special. I suppose Thierry and Paul Scholes have shown it can be done, but theyâre greats â world-class players. âBut it does make you a think a bit. I suppose anything can happen and I know I can still score goals, Iâve been doing it all of my career. And football has a habit of throwing up the unexpected. âLast January after Sunderland had sold Darren Bent I knew there was some talk of me going back but there was never anything official or any contact made with Birmingham or with me. âI think I thought that this would be my last season but itâs going so well and as long as you feel good and you feel like you can do it, why would you bother retiring? âQuinny said to me that youâre a long time retired, he said you should play as long as you could. And who knows, it would be brilliant to go back again next season if we (Blackpool) get promoted. Read More http://www.journallive.co.uk/safc/s...-kevin-phillips-61634-30427545/#ixzz1nllTG4hL
