i am going to make myself mighty unpopular on this thread, but it is done from the comfort of a devon armchair 210 miles from the greenhous meadow, and for the profitability of our great club

now then our lads have played their socks off at derby and in particular at home to swansea. i assume they get some sort of bonus for winning these games and richly deserved. so 4000 attendence is hardly like to open purse strings. how can we expect town to perform in a cup run when a paltry number of supporters turn up to see a premier side in action.
what does it take to get a capacity crowd at the meadow, chelsea, man utd etc or a high flying wolves.
i blame premier clubs for giving the league cup such a poor name by continuously playing reserves, chaplains and groundsmen. all this takes nothing away from shrews performances as many of those who played for swansea or who were on the bench played against wigan.
now as well as tuesdays game being a wake up call for swansea i suggest it was also a wake up call to shrews supporters. the sooner everyone recognises that the carling league is an important means of revenue earning for the club. i accept 3 home wins on the trot is expensive but at least we can say a big thankyou to graham and his team on saturday.
similarly i am guilty of trying to demean the paintdry cup, now business men johnsons have put money to support this clup, and on towns cup form they might walk it.
sadly as a fulltime carer and living so far away i have to wait until october until i can get up there to watch the shrews play
so for the sake of rowlands decanter, please give us another good er profitable cup game. preferably at home. floreat salopia, amwythig am byth, come on you shrews.

It was an early round cup game on a Tuesday night sandwiched between two other home matches during the main holiday period. yes they were premiership and not wanting to disrespect the Jacks but they don't have the same draw as Tottenham, Liverpool even probably Nottingham Forest to stick my neck out. They were only recently a lower league club similar to Blackpool or Hull. Would you make more effort to go to Southampton or Doncaster, Sheffield UTD or Yeovil in a home cup game if you were short of cash?

Plus the fact that most of the players are probably on a fixed wage, having a hone match provides an added set of money through the gates.

There are many that have said that Shrewsbury should have reduced prices. I cannot see that would have made a difference. You don't generally reduce prices when you have Premier League opposition. It is also no excuse to say that they would field a weakened team. They did make changes but still fielded a Portuguese international goalkeeper, the Wales captain + 5 strikers, including at some time all the goalscorers at Wembley, the Championship's leading scorer from last season who cost £3.5 million and Leroy Lita who scored loads for Reading in his time.

totally agree with wolves at home, 10 days ago gt took a reserve side to wolves including bradshaw's come back. the game was played behind closed doors at 1pm. i think gt was impressed, town lost narrowly 2-1

Atcham, the problem is that this would have been an extra game that season ticket holders would have had to pay for. Money is very tight and most would be running out of money with monthly pay day still a few days away. On reflection it was pretty good that so many did manage to find the money at this time of the month. If I was still living in Shrewsbury I would have to select my matches and would probably only be able afford a max of two home games a month. Times are tough.

I am a season ticket holder as the price of my ticket was around £270, being in the south stand. This means that all 23 league matches work out at 11.70 a game which is great value if you can make all matches, thankfully if rarely I cant someone normally buys my ticket for a tenner. Cup games of course mean an extra 17 if I buy it early.
