Before getting into this article I must point out I am writing this pre second round draw so when we draw someone awful please take the optimism with a pinch of salt!

After our win against Yeovil last night I have seen a lot of Gills fans on twitter who are incredibly excited about the prospect of drawing a big team in the next round with Man United being the main name being thrown around and I know a lot of it is tongue in cheek humour but it got me thinking about the possible financial benefits this cup can provide. In the second round the seeded teams enter and usually this may be met with disgruntled moans about unfair advantages given to bigger teams but thinking about it this can benefit us greatly as let's face it we are never going to be winning these cups, but we are much more likely to achieve the goal a lot of clubs our size strive for, a big pay day. By getting though last night we give ourselves a great chance of drawing a bigger team that could add a very tidy bit of revenue which after one early season game seems like a nice little reward. Many clubs do see this cup as a unneeded burden at this stage of the season and I can see why but maybe we should start thinking of it the other way around, as a little cash cow we can milk given a favourable draw aka easy first round and big second or maybe even third round. Maybe I'm getting a little carried away with it especially when we draw someone mediocre but what do you think is it something we should maybe pay more attention to or something that should be ignored in the most part?

    EDIT:

Attached is a link to the seeded and unseeded teams, the vast majority look worth drawing, only a few that would be truly deflating!

I've always thought we should take every cup competition seriously, clubs that do reap the rewards. I am really looking forward to the draw tonight and preying we get a big side at home for the cash benefits or a big side away for a top night out for the club. I had a look at who we could get earlier and really the only teams I wouldn't want us to get are Bournemouth, Reading and Watford. I'd take any of the rest, preferably some of them at home mind.

Due to the seeding system used there is a good chance we will pull a top team. Knowing our luck though it'll be Millwall.

I'd prefer an home time...yeah i know you get to visit a big ground but that's never been an attraction for me. Home tie, i'd even be happy with someone like Millwall, just so we can share a bit of banter with their lads on this site. But if i had to pick one...got to be Crystal Palace at home, ticks a number of boxes for me. Please not Watford...some of their supporters absolutely hate me on here <laugh>

It's 1976 all over again... Hands up who was there then? Alan Gowling scored in a 2-1 defeat if memory serves.

Pleased with that. Could have been worse.

How many more times do MK get a 'plum tie'.

A very good draw for us.We nearly got Man Utd,but Newcastle were the next best Team in the draw.Tuesday`s win over Yeovil has rewarded The Club with a big money making match.I just hope I can get a Ticket :).

good chance of it being on TV too id say. in terms of big club v small club. id say MKD v MU is a cert but wed be the next obvious choice for a david v goliath. As a general spectacle west ham v sheff united looks interesting though.

how many games will they show?

Should be a cracking match this fellas.

I'd honestly fancy your chances if I were you as our club openly states it's not bothered about cups (a stance I totally disagree with).
For me the cups are special indeed, carrying romance, hope and expectation in equal measure across all the divisions.
Good luck fellas and maybe I'll bump into one or two of you if I can get down.
