There will never be another like him. It's impressive what Fergie did with United- by how Shankly built Liverpool from a Division 2 outfit to the best team in the world- and built it such that even his successors were able to continue his legacy and build in his stead is unrivaled. No one built a dynasty like Shanks!
Yes, there isn't anyone who comes close to what he achieved. Like you said, Sir Alex, was close and besides him there will never, EVER be anyone as great in the game again. Its changed now and gaffers don't have the same longevity...
Great manager and clearly one of the best. Liverpool had hovered near the top of division 2 before he took over, and even after he did, that didn't change for another 2/3 seasons. He built the stature of the club much in the way Busby did with United. Full credit to him for the way he drove the club forward, but he was fortunate in having the likes of Paisley and ***an there to support him. It's hardly surprising the dynasty continued as the seeds were there when Shankly had arrived. Not trying to belittle him btw, he was a true great and deserves respect. R.I.P.
The man was and continues to be a legend. I only wish I'd been around to witness his genius for myself. Unfortunately, he passed when I was just six months old
What are you on mate? It may not be biased but it is actually wrong. The seeds of what Shankly did were not present in the club before he arrived. Single- handedly he infused a whole new philosophy into the club. If the people were there he challenged them, it they were not there he imported them. Either way he changed everything. The difference between Shankly and Busby was that Bill knew when the time was right to bow out - and stay out! But there's no RIP for Shanks, his spirit will live on as long as there is a Liverpool Football Club.
A great manager and a visionary but the bit in bold is inaccurate as he never actually achieved that. The great Brian Clough however did, which is often overlooked for some reason.
Disagree, he was the driving force no doubt about it, but his footballing philosophy was shared by Paisley and ***an. He himself said that. It is no surprise therefore that Paisley was able to carry it on after Shankly's time was over. I won't dignify the Busby comment with a response. Just wish he'd had the likes of Paisley when he was there. The fact you can't even respect a simple RIP comment without making a cheap comment says it all. Anyway, don't want to lower the tone of the thread, so I'll leave you to it.
Bit gutted I never got to see the great teams (we turned **** just as I was born ) but obviously heard a lot about Shankly. Have to say thanks to him for making the club that I support now RIP
***an had been with the club just over 1 year and Paisley had achieved nothing before Shankly arrived on December 1st 1959. There was no sign from either that they shared any philosophy before Shankly arrived. You were the one to introduce Busby to the thread and I replied in a factual manner.
I meant "unbiased" as in Treble is a Utd supporter and its not easy for most fans of either side to give credit where its due.
Page, as I read his post, there was absolutely no need to introduce Busby into the post at all. Busby didn't build the same way that Shanks did and it was Shanks who enthused and encouraged both Paisley and ***an. So I doubt that he was really trying to be unbiased.
Wow Tommy Smith! I watched him play many times against us in the early 70s and he used to scare the living crap out of me! They dont make players like him anymore! Shanks used to feed him raw steak before every game. And I would also like to pay homage to the late great Bill Shankly who remains without doubt the finest manager that this country has ever produced. He built the first footballing dynasty and laid the foundations for what the modern game is today. His influence remains.
What's the definition of fear? Nutmegging Tommy Smith. He scored one or two useful goals with his head as well
