RIP , a true British Hero , this is the sort of person our kids be inspiring to be like , not over paid hypered up footballers
As a schoolboy, I shook hands and had a brief conversation with Barnes Wallis (the bouncing bomb creator) when he was the guest at my school's Speech Day. About eighteen years ago I also met and chatted with Ken Brown, a Canadian pilot with 617 squadron, who bombed the Sorpe Dam and who miraculously survived the mission along with his crew. Having read a number of articles and interviews regarding the Second World War, I can't imagine the fear, stress and horror the aircrews must have faced. They must have been incredible men although often from average backgrounds. My mother's first husband was a Wellington pilot who was killed over Germany at age 21. They met working at Reckitts.
