Last year, in January 2011 Adam Lallana got injured. The run of games before his injuries were as follows: Southampton 4 – 1 Huddersfield Southampton 4 – 0 Exeter City Dagenham & Redbridge 1 – 3 Southampton Oldham Athletic 0 – 6 Southampton So a convincing +15 goal difference for the Saints in those four games. Then Lallana didn’t play the next four games, with results as follows: Southampton 0 – 0 Notts County Tranmere Rovers 2 – 0 Southampton Exeter City 1 – 2 Southampton Peterborough United 4 – 4 Southampton Here Saints’ form clearly dropped with a goal difference of -1. Lallana then came back into the team and we recorded a +4 goal difference across the next 3 games. So the question is: Do you think Lallana being injured will result in a similar run of form as shown above? Update: Lallana has now not played a full match in 9, with results as follows: Man United 2 – Southampton 1 Southampton0-0Everton D Chelsea2-2Southampton D Aston Villa0-1Southampton W Southampton1-5Chelsea L Southampton1-1Arsenal D Stoke3-3Southampton D Southampton0-1Sunderland L To what level, now these games have been played, and taking away the effect that Poch has, will Southampton be boasted by Lallana?
Different time now. We have a bigger more talented squad. Yes he will be missed but we should be able to cope!
Any team would miss one of it's best players, but we have others midfielders. The difference may be in the team adjusting to him not being where he is supposed to be.
Adam has been absolutely superb defensively this year too. That may be missed as much if not more than his guile.
Lallana was a beast in league one and we were reliant on him, his influence is not so profound in the premier league and we're stronger in other areas now. Not to say he won't be missed of course, but I'm not sure we can draw the same conclusions from a different scenario.
We should really worry if we are without Lallana and Ramirez, with either one of them we do have a creative spark in midfield, although with both we are obviously stronger.
I think people are underestimating what Lallana does in this team. I hope we can cope because he 2x any of the rest of the midfield players. As for 'that was in L1 and we have a more talented squad now. Yes but that was in L1 with the best squad in that division yet we still missed him. Now we have not got the best squad inthe division by a long stretch. I would say it's more of a miss now than it was then.
I think the fact we coped for the majority of the game without him at the weekend then I would say we'll be ok.
Who were woeful last night, by all accounts. Big, big game coming up against the black cats. Just hope they haven't turned a corner.
