The Club have announced a return to supporting women’s football: ”The Fulham FC Foundation is delighted to announce that from the beginning of the 2014/15 season it will be running two Ladies teams, to further help the development of women and girls’ football at grassroots level. Westfield Ladies FC will be renamed Fulham FC Foundation Ladies for the start of the new season’s campaign. The team finished the 2013/14 season in fifth place in the London & South East Regional Women’s Premier League. You may have seen Rachel, Fulham LFC’s most famous player, picking up the FA Cup again last weekend with the Arsenal. She joined Fulham LFC, from Arsenal as it happens, in 2000 as the first female professional footballer in England.
As I recall, Al Fayed set up the ladies' team in the expectation that other clubs would go professional soon afterwards. He folded it when a pro league for women failed to materialise. Now that the ladies' game is catching up with his vision, it's not a bad time for us to put our foot in the water again.
