I am sure the club will offer Ledley a coaching role when the day comes for him to retire. This might be controversial, but I would hesitate to do this. One of the most important factors in coaching is not just what you know, but the ability to put your knowledge across. I am not so sure Ledley can communicate that well. No disrespect, but when it comes to communication skills, he's on a par with Merson.

i hear what you are saying Spurcat...and i always looked with bafflement at Les ferdinand and Tim Sherwood with coaching roles at our club but never thought either had that kind of teaching mentality...i could be wrong.

When I've read and seen interviews of him in the past he's come across as knowledgable, if he can communicate well in an interview he should be able to do it as a coach. I'd also point to the improvement in younger players in particular when they play alongside him. He's always articulating and talking when he's on the field, look at the improvement to Dawson and Kaboul when they're with him, they take instructions and even start to lead the line themselves when he's not there. I've never seen him in training but I'd be very surprised if he can't turn his knowledge and reading of the game into something that will benefit our defenders in the future.

Whilst he may not be good in front of the cameras, the important thing is if he can get his ideas across on the pitch and/or the training ground. He seems more than able to do so on the pitch, so there shouldn't be a problem with him doing so in training. The same can be said for Ryan Nelsen.

Always remember: Bob Wilson always came across as someone about to crack under interrogation in interviews, but he was a top notch goalkeeping coach and instrumental in David Seaman being so reliable for so long.

Give him a DVD of a game and I think he could tell you where each defender should be and what they should be wary of at any point and that's where I see his instict and knowledge coming in to use. As ever, I'm speaking purely as a supporter with no experience of coaching so really what I'm saying is I hope he can stay at the club for ever and ever training up a defence cloned from him but with better knees

Instructing players in a game is merely shouting basic commands...you don't explain why, I fail to see the logic here.

You would have us think that one needs a law degree (or one in Latin) to coach football.

Ledley King already has more coaching skill in his 'left bollock' then most highly paid (degree in 'speaking') coaches out there at present.
Any young up/comming defender would benefit enormously even if he (King) was totally lacking the power of speech (dumb) and could only communicate 33.33% of hes knowledge of the game to them.
I'm not saying I know everything there is to know but I do have some experience in coaching., successfully, and I'd say this,...
Would you rather have Andrew lloyd Webber coach the young defenders at Spurs ?. Now theres someone 'who' can communicate.

What I really don't want is Ledley to carry on if he's not up to it. I want to remember him as the best Centre Half I have seen in a Spurs shirt, not somebody who carried on too long. He deserves better.
