I was interviewed on several BBC Radio stations today, on the subject of the King's prostate. I produced a film about my prostate cancer journey.

My best line was 'Never has a Royal prostate been so much in the public domain!" His was benign, no cancer.

My main message was that whatever we think of Monarchy, it was praiseworthy for him to get it out there. Normally there is a strict protocol for Royal medical conditions. He has done a great service the men of this country.

1 in 8 men get prostate cancer. The earlier you catch it, the more likely you will survive. In a football crowd of 30,000 some 3,500 will have cancer.

I said how important it is for men to get checked if at all worried about something. So, my friends, once you are over 50 have a check up.

I was diagnosed quite advanced, and am lucky to have survived.

I believe several charities have promoted this at Portman Rd over the years.

Good to hear, tho the PSA test is not that reliable. Other tests, scans etc are needed if yr GP is concerned.

It's when the doctor says "take off your trousers and put them over there next to mine" that you've got to worry!

Prostate Cancer killed my Dad and my brother contracted the disease but survived after 37 sessions of radio therapy, so for more than 10 years i have an annual PSA blood test and a physical every other year, its a terrible disease and spreads to the bones reducing the sufferer to skin and bone in very little time with the inevitable result, its dreadful for the sufferer and helpless family members who have to watch it take its course. GET YOURSELVES CHECKED !!

Well posted FM, and sorry to hear about your Dad. It tends to run in families. All 3 brothers in my family got it same year, I drew the short straw and told them to get tested.
