Though none of us knew it, right there at the time
A journey was about to start,
The day, August 8th, two thousand and nine
The time, 3 o´clock sharp,
Who could have envisaged what transpired that day
Or even less, what was to come,
McNally who helped us so much on our way
Took steps to replace Mr. Gunn,
But that it should be, so spectacularly
Our conqueror from that said game,
Who would take the reins, I think you´ll agree
Not many had him in the frame,
But already on his first home game in charge
We saw the first tangible signs,
That this little Scot could be something quite large
When against Wycombe we scored five times,
And maybe that doesn´t strike many as being
Remarkable in any way,
But straight from the off, I think we were seeing
The philosophy behind his play,
And slowly but surely thanks to our new ace
Results and points they soon picked up,
So that we were sitting high up in 5th place
When Paulton were next in the Cup,
But even the most optimistic, I guess
At that time, could hardly believe,
That close to an auto spot we´d be, no less
Just round about Christmas Eve,
And those long time leaders from that place up north
Were in January swept aside,
As Lambert and all his Canaries sped forth
Six wins on the trot turned the tide,
From then on in there was just no looking back
Top spot was now ours to behold,
And although they huffed and puffed, the chasing pack
And their attacks petered out cold,
And before much longer the title was there
League 1 Champions was our name,
Next on the agenda, we had to prepare
For Championship football again,

So endeth the first part of this awesome tale
But there is much more yet to come,
As our first year back on the Championship trail
Proved more than surprising for some,

Strengthening began for this newish ball game
While others were sent on their way,
The hopes of most, if not all, were the same
A year to consolidate our play,
But things started badly when hopes were so high,
In front of a packed Carrow Road,
Defeat to a Watford team just passing by
Did nothing to lighten the load,
So in the same way as just one year before
We started off with a defeat,
Would fate once again show herself at our door
And end up by giving a repeat,
We could only hope, as the games progressed
That we´d find our feet soon enough,
And lo and behold we were matching the best
Quite soon with some half decent stuff,
Already, as October entered the fray
We´d found our place towards the top,
I had already just begun to pray
That we wouldn´t suddenly flop,
But every new challenge we met with no fear
And picked up points regularly,
The longer it continued both here and there
Our confidence grew, we could see,
And after one special game, 4-1 it was
Against our most rivalrous team,
We really could tell we were back here, because
Of some of the play we had seen,
And so it went on, for game after game
Until New Years Day came around,
QPR the leaders, the next team who came
Were well beaten on our home ground,
Now not only us, but others, they too
Were beginning to take some note,
Was it really possible that this new crew
Would continue to remain afloat,
The answer to that is a resounding, Yes
As we enter the final bend,
Our destination which is up with the best
Is hopefully where we will end,
But even if we, should now at this late stage
Run out of gas right on the line,
Which nothing suggests, but it is hard to gauge
Our journey has truly been fine. OTBC
