We gotta sell to buy, and with Forest paying £43m For MGW and him only getting better they'll want more, plus Everton value Onana at £50m. We ain't getting £100m+ for Trippier, Miggy and Wilson.
Beşiktaş is very close to completing the transfer of Newcastle United captain Jamaal Lascelles. The English defender is close to becoming an Eagle at an affordable price... https://x.com/gokmenozcan/status/1750096076856553761?s=20
But in that scenario we don't need £100m for them. We'd need £25m if we were to offer 4 year contracts, or just £20m if offering 5 year contracts.
Yeah, thought so. So selling Miggy isn't quite as attractive in that sense of immediate FFP impact - unless we get a very good price for him, of course.
Yeah, but newspapers / sites don't generate the same amount of interest by saying "Newcastle need to get better at trading players and might start to move on those that aren't good enough long term" as they do by saying "On the precipice of FFP and must sell top stars". You've got to be some sort of ****** to think that any club can operate without trading players, and we, sadly, have to start chipping away at the squad members / first teamers to make any sort of recognisable cash benefit (bar wages).
Still better than keeping him, and trading nothing. If we clear £20m plus wages for him, we reinvest that 5 fold all the while our revenues will be overtaking that spend in the background. This whole "FFP nightmare" is pretty much this window alone, as long as we're not going to go absolutely mad and get wasteful with non-recyclable squad investment (ala Manc Reds). If we could get rid of Miggy, Wilson and Trippier this window and bring in only 2 replacements (Mig and Wils), I'd do it in a hearbeat. We'd arrive at the summer window in good shape. I actually think it's more likely that Miggy and Tripps go and we won't consider selling Wilson - he's goals, but unreliable re availability. I think he has to go in the summer though.
As I said the other day, it will be another Carroll type situation. Outgoings with no incomings, turd.
We couldn't afford £5m loan fee for Philips. It's a weird window and overall the situation is strange.Staveley now only has 6% of the club, the other 4% has now gone to the Reuben Bros. I suspect she'll end up with nothing soon enough and potentially not be involved with the club long term. Definitely feels like something is afoot.
Take the tinfoil off mate. If you think we couldn't afford a £5m loan fee (not sure who's seen that confirmed) I think you'd be wrong. They'd make it happen if it was crucial. What I saw reported was that the club didn't think that the move made economic sense (which I agree with, personally). RB taking up more of Wor Mandy's shares - as long as they between them retain the % required to satisfy the PL, I couldn't care less. I do think that now that potential building work is in the offing, RB taking a bigger % is not something that surprised me massively. This window, we're definitely hampered on making major moves unless we trade. But in the grand scheme of things, I'm not in any way concerned with how we're positioned.
Think it was more like £7m and it would make Phillips the highest paid at the club which would have ruffled a few feathers, think City were insisting on loan to buy aswell, trying to get the club to bend over, imho.
I think she’ll be paid to be in her role at the club. Her and Mehrdad simply don’t appear to have the money to keep up the investment in the club. Mehrdads dig at fans a few weeks ago was like a suicide note.
Agree with all the above - Not fussed about Phillips and actually relieved he's not coming tbh, would have been big wages and he'd take a month or two to get up to speed after playing limited football for 2 years For me if there are no outgoings, means no incoming, but that's only because we've pushed the boat out so hard in the last 2 years, to the absolute limit, that we're hamstrung until the new commercial deals kick in. Once they do there will be another rush to spend what we can ASAP to improve the squad and push on. If we can wheel and deal in the last week of the market we will do but don't be surprised to see us keep our powder dry, get the injured back in the squad and then have a mental summer window with 6-10 out goings and 5/6 incoming. Expect the squad to look something like this after the next window: GK, Pope* Livarmento*, Ashby* CB, Schar Botman*, Burn* LB, Target* Tonali*, Anderson, Bruno*, Longstaff, Willock, Joelinton RW, RW Gordon*, Barnes* Isak*, CF + 3 extras for the 25 man squad There's potentially 11 there bought by the current owners (more inc. the likes of Trippier if they don't go) and 6 not filled so we have max of 5-8 left over from the Ashley era (2 of who are home grown) in 2 years.
Indeed,he was only going to make up the numbers till players came back, club had no interest in him as a permanent signing.
Seen a few reports quoting "Talk of a £30m bid for Almiron". Take it. Take it now. £30m is easily more than we paid for him. Mulitiply that by 4 or 5 (i.e. amortised contracts under FFP calcs) and we can gain 2 or 3 very good replacements to help improve the squad.
