At the start of season I gave the optimistic prediction of us finishing 8th. In early games we showed great football but lacked a bit of final quality that top championship teams have. Our initial league positions highlighted this. We then went on an amazing run that no-one could have predicted and a cup run to follow suit. we were soon punching well above our weight in 2nd. Unfortunately fixture congestion and an injury crisis hit us hard and caused the dip around the New year period. We have been on an unfortunate run recently and have had a bit of swing in luck compared to earlier in the season. However. I still think that we are having a fantastic season and that we would be happy with 7th if we had been in around 7th for the whole season and had been winning and losing at a steady pace. It is only the drop from 2nd that is causing the anquish. Its time to back the team, be happy where we are and hopefully sneak into the playoffs.
cough... certainly in top 10. And you are right punching above our weight ...to start ... good cup run..... then ker plunk .... injury depleted squad fixture congestion etc... but that is what we must be able to deal with... I think we have a hard core of 7 players 6-7 fringe and 6 good to have in squad and a gaggle of up and comings that need game time we cant give them because a) cant afford the risk b) never get a 3 goal advantage with 10 plus injury time to play .... then again we lose games in that period!!!!! ZAK VYNER has been in the squad and did well since been on loan and do VG AT Plymouth we also have at least 6 out on loan doing very well.. so future is looking bright we have won 4 on the trot once lets do it again and try to lose just 2 before season ends and PO's decided
Back from my 2 month absence with the cruise to Australia and all that. Not surprised by our slight fall from grace and I must confess that due to almost total lack of internet on board my floating home I might be off the mark with some of my thoughts. It looked like we blew almost certain 3 pointers by conceding a shed load of late goals against 2 teams including Sunderland at home when we shipped 3 goals in the last 20 minutes, followed by a similar routine against Derby. These 2 results brought back bad memories from years gone by and concerned me about our ability to stay in the chase and the inevitable result from over the bridge has left us adrift of the playoff spots. Am I right in saying that our dealings in the Jan transfer window were close to nothing at all and if that is anywhere close to the truth then we didn't do enough to keep our peckers up and slightly in front of the rest of the pack. A return to a positive run of form over the next few weeks is essential if we want to have any chance of going up by way of the playoffs and our game tomorrow may show us if we are up to the task but I have a sneaking suspicion that we may not be able to return to the form that we were experiencing prior to my departure to the oceans. I could use the analogy that after I went to sea I returned to find my team all at sea but some might think that's a bit harsh so let's just hope that now they know I'm back things will just get better and better as the weeks fly by. Nice to be home again.
