Every Bristol City injury and expected return date we know ahead of Preston North End trip
The Robins could be without some 12 players as they visit Deepdale on Friday night.

The fixtures don't fall kindly for Bristol City as the Robins now head to perennial bogey side Preston North End at precisely the moment that Dean Holden's side are missing the most players that they have done this season.

It almost seems destiny that the Robins go to Deepdale in real need of a result to boost the morale and keep in touch with the top six, yet are hamstrung by their squad being vastly reduced. The chances of a first win against the Lancashire side in 15 games look reduced.

Given the circumstances, a draw may be a very good point earned from the north west on Friday night in front of the Sky Sports cameras.

Holden's side are expected to be missing up to 12 players for the match - and here's a list on all of them, what the state of play is and when they could be back.

Famara Diedhiou - one match ban for red card
The Senegal striker was unlucky to receive a second yellow card for a high foot when attempting an overhead kick in the second half against Millwall - but now serves a one-match ban and misses taking on Alex Neil's side. Chris Martin will lead the line again on Friday in his stead.

Tomas Kalas - dead leg - TBC
We'd be surprised if the club captain is kept out of Friday's match because of a dead leg but the club will want to make sure there are no complications and that the Czech Republic international is not risking any further time out.

"We will have to see on Tomas Kalas with his quite nasty dead leg there towards the end, so fingers crossed he’s okay," explained the head coach after the Millwall loss.

Nahki Wells - arm injury - should be okay for Friday
The striker looked to sustain an arm injury in the latter stages of Tuesday's loss, but managed to resume playing and was pictured after the game looking okay.

Neither was Wells mentioned in any of the post-match interviews conducted by Holden and so the 30-year-old should be good to play in attack with Martin on Friday.

Chris Brunt - calf - unknown return date
Confirmed as picking up a calf injury on Tuesday evening and missing the visit of Millwall. Holden explained after the defeat that Brunt would be "out for a while" and the midfielder is ruled out of Friday's game.

Jamie Paterson - hip - unknown
Being assessed on a game by game basis. Not expected to be out long and may feature before the end of the month.

Must overcome a niggling hip injury that is giving him pain every time he kicks the ball. No return to play timescale has been set, though surgery is not needed and it is hoped that strengthening exercises will do the job, according to Holden.

"It is purely around the pain and whether he can strike a ball or sprint, but at the moment he is unable to do that. We are hoping day by day he will improve, and that he won’t be out for too long," said the head coach this week.

Jay Dasilva - tibia - unknown
Was scanned this week and is another who was confirmed as being out for a while, following Tuesday's game. Official confirmation is expected on the weekend on how long Dasilva will remain out for and his treatment

"We have now got all the information from the specialists and we are just deciding on the best course of treatment," explained Holden.

Alfie Mawson - knee - January
Expected back in January after a knee knock that saw him return to Fulham before coming back to Ashton Gate. The club is hopeful that he will make it back onto the pitch in January.

Nathan Baker - hamstring - early January
Probably the closest player to returning after a nasty hamstring tear sustained in an innocuous challenge in a pre-season friendly against Aston Villa held at the Vale Resort hotel in South Wales.

Expected back in early January, and a slim chance of being back by the end of December even.

Steven Sessegnon - hamstring - late January
The on-loan Fulham defender suffered a bad hamstring tear in the draw against Swansea City and had to return to the Cottagers for a full assessment.

As revealed by Bristol Live, the wing-back was set to miss several months of action. Now back at Ashton Gate and set to feature again in the new year.

Andi Weimann - ACL (knee) - May
The Austrian was also injured in the 1-1 draw with Swansea City earlier in the campaign and unfortunately sustained a dreaded ACL injury, despite hardly missing a match or training session over the last few years.

Ruled out for most of the season, though a sure aim will be for the former Aston Villa and Wolverhampton Wanderers forward to get back playing before the end of 2020/21.

Liam Walsh - quad - January
Walsh has been out injured for almost eight months following a quad injury originally picked up following the suspension and later resumption of football as he returned to Bristol City from Coventry last May.

After several confirmed set-backs it is hoped that he will finally return in January.

Joe Williams - thigh - January
The new signing from Wigan has yet to play for Bristol City after joining for a confirmed £1.25m fee from the Latics in the summer.

Picked up a thigh injury in his first training session and like Walsh has suffered several set-backs in trying to return to the grass. Like Walsh, it is hoped that Williams will play from the new year.

A complete football squad injured or missing except the goalkeeper, no wonder DH is struggling, he has only got half a squad to choose from, yet he is not bleating all over the press, moaning what a problem he has got but he will valiently fight on, he is just getting on with the task.

We always seem to have these injury issues every season - a lot of them occurring in training. Perhaps our training methods need revising?

    Been saying that for years.
We seem to get a disproportionate amount of serious, and long term injuries compared to other clubs.

Over the years we have probably been at the top end of the injury scale many times and it must beg the question as to why? Are some of our training procedures the possible cause or could it be down to lack of certain fitness criteria before games? Perhaps we can just put it down to bad luck but the downfall of a lot of our new arrivals has also been a problem for a long time which concerns me more each season because we always seem to lose a lot of horses over the first few hurdles and struggle to regain any impetus for the rest of the campaign. Something is rotten in the state of Denmark,

To have virtually a whole team sat in the doctors waiting room, and half of them players that could easily be in the starting line up is rather disconcerting. It does however show the depth of our squad that we put out a "B" team that only concedes defeats by the odd goal!
