Martin O'Neill does not believe he has 'cracked it' at the Stadium of Light, with the Sunderland boss aware that 'disaster is around the corner'.

Since replacing Steve Bruce in the Black Cats hot-seat, O'Neillhas turned the North East outfit from potential relegation candidates into top-six hopefuls.

He is, however, aware that his bubble could burst at any time and bring everyone crashing back down to earth with a bump.

It is possible that things could start to unravel over the course of the next four days, with Sunderlandset to face local rivals Middlesbrough in an FA Cup fourth round replay on Wednesday and then play host to top-four chasers Arsenal in the Premier League at the weekend.

O'Neill is refusing to take anything for granted heading into those ties, with his experiences in football having taught him to expect the unexpected.

"Do I think I've cracked it? Absolutely not," said O'Neill.

    Belief

"We can get beaten at Middlesbrough and against Arsenal and if we did, our next game in a fortnight's time against West Brom, we could lose that.

"I honestly don't believe we would lose through a lack of self-belief though."

O'Neill has warned Sunderland supporters not to get their hopes up regarding the club's chances of tasting FA Cup glory this season, with the former Aston Villa and Celtic coach wary of raising expectations only to then see them come crashing down.

He said: "Disaster is around the corner. It is, it's lurking, it's incredibly negative. Am I thinking about the bad times ahead? Jesus, no. I've got to remain positive, I'm going to fight this negativity!

"I've had some poor runs in my time. I know how difficult it is for some.

"I'm not building up for the inevitable. The inevitable is inevitable, but I'm not building up for it. That's probably why I'm a Sunderland fan, absolutely, I couldn't have chosen a more appropriate club
