For some time now I have been thinking about what attributes would make the Premier League a fairer and more interesting league? A little less obsession with the Sky favourites would be welcome as would seeing all the clubs getting equal exposure on the TV and perhaps some balancing out of the budgets so that it is more of an even playing field. Then I thought wouldnât it be a good idea if the Premier League truly represented the fans of this country and was made up of teams from all the regions. So my ideal Premier League would include: Brighton; Bristol City; Carlisle; Hull; Norwich; Plymouth; Southampton; Swansea. These are all the top sides in their respective regions. The remaining 12 places would be made up of clubs from: The Midlands; The North East; The North West; London. If this were to happen then fans across the country would have the opportunity to see live top flight football played by the best team in their region.
Mine would be something like this: Arsenal Aston Villa Chelsea Derby Everton Ipswich Leeds Liverpool Manchester City Manchester Utd Newcastle Norwich Nottingham Forest Portsmouth (for the derby games) Sheffield Wednesday Southampton Stoke Sunderland Tottenham West Ham
We all know that if there was any review of the Premier League mooted, the top clubs would take the opportunity to make it a closed shop and reduce the league to about 12-16 teams.
I'd like to see Forest and Leeds back in there, as well as ourselves of course. Would also be cool if Wimbledon could make it all the way back up. Nothing would make me happier right now though than to see Leicester fail in buying their way up.
Indeed. They having tried to make it a closed shop ever since it was devised. Saints were included then and voted against any exclusive measures. My ideal Premier League would be to relegate, roughly the current top half, for the good of football, and promote the current top half of the Championship [no bias there]. With a concurrent reduction in finances and sponsorship fees for those normally high fliying premiership teams. Let's see how good a manager Ferguson is when he's got average Championship/League One players to motivate..? Guess there might be a lot of managers with less than impressive records after that rearrangement. And who would the media fawn over..? I would also bring any Elite division back to 22 teams and 42 matches a season, like it should be.
Arsenal Aston Villa Birmingham City Chelsea Derby County Everton Ipswich Town Leeds United Liverpool Manchester City Manchester United Newcastle United Norwich City Nottingham Forest Portsmouth Southampton Sunderland Tottenham Hotspur West Ham United Wolverhampton Wanderers
I think we on shakey ground if we start to moan about the financial muscle of the top teams; League 1 clubs might have felt the same about us! I don't know which teams would make the best Premier League, but I think that with rules to stop the ridiculous debt levels, and quotas for the number of overseas players, we might get a better result.
Doubt it. They don't take that risk. If they could be guaranteed a place no matter what then yes but anyone other then the big 4 or 5 always votes to remain. EUEFA have been trying to get us to go for 18 team for years with no success as 6 votes for does not beat 14 against. lol My ideal premier league would be whatever it is next season, or the season after etc....i.e. when we get back there if you get my drift Andy
