Last few days been linked with the likes of Moussa Dembele/Hakan Calhanoglu in various articles

Both of which would significantly improve us. Imo Hakan would begin the phase out of Larsson, especially being a free kick specialist.

However one name that hasnt really been banded about as much who is available on a free is one Yoann Gourcuff. Admittedly probably too good for the likes of us, seen a couple of articles link him with Liverpool but who hasnt been linked to them this summer.

Admittedly 29, however he is available on a free so any fee could just be thrown into his wages.

Would be quite a shrewd move I reckon.

Alan Carr is prob all over this, scouted him when he was a lad iirc :emoticon-0138-think:emoticon-0138-think

Would be a very good signing, but as has been said..., way to good for us at the moment. Because I genuinely think we will improve each year now. finally. It's only been 7 bloody years Niall.

Gourcuff is above our calibre. His wages would be way out of our bracket I reckon. I think he's also a bit of a head-case, but admittedly I haven't got anything hard to back that one up (resisting strong urge to say something about his nationality).

The new up-and-coming Sunderland are above Gourcuff's calibre. Watched him regularly from Geneva (on telly, admittedly) but he would just be blown away in the Premier League. Very lightweight. Dembele for me.

That one's not happening. It was a nothing article, completely made up with no source or quotes. Besides, Barca and Real are apparently interested in the lad, I somehow doubt he'll come and play for us ahead of those two <laugh>

Also, Sow set to sign a new 3 year contract. So just his dickhead Agent using us again to get him a better deal.

Dembele no thanks. Does f all significant. The opitome of a training ground player.

Rodwell scored the same amount of league goals last season (3) as Dembele has in 3 seasons at spurs in 80 apps

Dembele is not an attacking midfielder anyway so not sure why he is mentioned in this thread. He would sit nicely next to Catts in the position Larssen has played in.

We need a no.10 type player who can sit in the hole in midfield and make things happen as well as scoring a few goals. I personally think this position is perfect for Giacc but another quality player would be very welcome as Giacc can also play on the wing.

You're right about him being more of a midfileder but I think that's what we're going for.

We won't be going for that AM, sit in the hole type of player imo(virtually a Support Striker). Our 433 would essentially turn into 424 and it would be suicide. Any inclusion of a sit in the hole type player will come from one of the front three dropping deep, not a midfielder stepping that far forward, Dick sometimes did that by dropping Ola Toivonen deeper from his out and out striker role(A player Dick may look at yet). Inquiring about Dembele, it pretty much confirmed to me we're looking for more of a CM.

433 with 1 cm slightly set forward of the other 2 cm's I think is how we'll shape up.

Dembele, before spurs, was a cm who liked to bring the ball forward, just what we need and don't have.
Spurs used him deeper, making him, I think, much less effective.
