Morning all. 7.00 am and it was crash, flash, bang and rain hammering on the rooflights. 10.00 am and there is a clear blue sky with the sun beating down. Think it might be a case of taking a raincoat down the field in case it changes again. I have some winter cabbage to plant out, and some plants for the containers up here at the house. Hope to get them all in as there is no football to stop me. Enjoy your day.
Morning all. Clear blue sky and warm, but a very strong wind. Since everything has damped down I have been hoping to have my bonfire, but with this wind it is far too dangerous. Many trees have started to shed their leaves, so a stray spark could easily set off a fire. The supermarkets are now selling vegetables for casseroles and cubes of meat for slow cooking, a sure sign that the season is changing. Enjoy the day even if daylight is now reduced.
Morning all. Clear blue sky again this morning and very mild. This is how it started yesterday, but in the afternoon we had a thunderstorm and something like a cloudburst. It came down so hard that the gutters on the houses couldn't cope, it just flowed over the top of them. I know I wanted rain throughout the summer, but this was something else. I discovered that one of the taps on a water butt had worked loose, so had to transfer 200 litres of rainwater into an empty one, then disappear inside to tighten it up again. More storms and very strong winds forecast for this afternoon. A bit more planting out before the rain arrives. Have a good day whatever you must do.
Managed a walk on ilkley Moor today before the rain came.. We took advantage of mmes new senior citizen bus pass to sit on the top of the bus and have a great day out..
Morning all. It is wet outside and no sign of it stopping for long. Yesterday evening I ventured down the field to check that everything was still in place as there had been a gale blowing throughout the afternoon. It was quite scary with the tall trees bending in the wind and pieces of dead branch falling from above. A huge ash tree is now down in the next field with it's roots unable to keep it upright. This year has certainly been one of extreme weather conditions. Enjoy your day whatever you will do.
Morning all. Dry currently, but rain expected this afternoon. I am not sure why, but we have seen really strong winds for the past few days which is unusual. The wind turbines that are about five miles away are shut down if the wind becomes too strong, and don't turn if there is not enough. They also have to shut down twice a year for the migration of the cranes as they have been built in the normal flight path of the birds. The result is that this year they have spent as much time idle as producing electricity. Enjoy your day whatever you must do.
Signs of Autumn here it is almost nearly chiily at peak night and sunny and in mid twenties in the day. Hop all are well.
Morning all. Very overcast and damp here, gardening is not an option. I will soon have to clean the chimney ready for the first firing up of the log burner. You can buy various things that you stick in the fire that will clean your pipes and stacks, or you can employ the services of the very nice lady chimney sweep. Think I might do the weekend shop while it is wet and hope that the weather improves tomorrow. Enjoy your day.
