Yesterday evening I had a phone call to say that one of my old friends had lost his wife that day, and now this. I really hope that it does not turn out to be another year like last or I will have to buy some more handkerchiefs.
Morning all from Jersey. I'm supposed to be on the 9.20 flight to Gatwick with my sons, but as the last flight last night was cancelled due to strong winds, I think we're going to be delayed. Even though I'm over for the weekend, I won't be going to the WFC match. It's for all 3 of our birthdays and the only sport my youngest will watch is ice hockey so we're going to Cardiff tomorrow to watch the Devils in their top of the table match with the Belfast Giants in the new Ice Arena Wales, and the match is a sell-out to the point where they've had to use what is normally a fire exit into an entrance for season ticket holders. If the atmosphere there is anything like the Devils first home, the old Wales National Ice Rink, it is going to be phenomenal. Their previous home, known as the Big Blue Tent, had all the atmosphere of the former warehouse that it seemed to be and many Devils fans wouldn't go there.
Good morning... a star went out yesterday..... life has changed perceptibly..... An era has ended..... Life goes on.... GRAHAM, GRAHAM TAYLOR
Morning all. I had hoped that yesterday's pain through grief would have subsided a little by today. It is still raw, and will be for some days ahead. Sunday I will be with my friend from Middlesbrough and I know that he will understand how we are feeling at this time. Life does go on, but with one of the best bits missing.
Just wish I wasn't 1462 miles away from the Vic. Somehow it just seems right to be there right now. No hornets here but at least we all know the bond isn't limited by distance. So nice and reassuring to see warm messages from 'orns from New Zealand to the US and many other points between. Just would be nice to shout "We're Elton's Taylor-made army" with people who understand. I'm certain GT would want us to remember all the great times, the dreams that came true ... and then move on (not forgetting of course). And as so often he would be right. But it isn't so easy.
Completely agree KC. This has so much of the feeling of a death in the family. Just reading the hundreds of postings made not only by the Watford family show how deeply loved and respected GT was. Another silver lining is to see past members of this forum here and to hope they are never far away but view the board even if they no longer post.
Looks like summer is starting to bite back home... It may only be 0C here, but I think I'll stay awhile...
Yes morning all.... I am afraid I have committed to family stuff today so will most likely miss the match altogether..... have already been in tears Hope everyone gets through today OK....
Morning all, a perfect winter's morning, cold, but a clear blue sky. Just the day to go to a football match. Speaking to my son who lives just outside Leeds, he was watching Leeds v Derby last night, and commented on the fact that GT had been remembered before the game with perfect respect. His sons who were born in Yorkshire and speak like the Brownlee brothers are both into sport, love going to Elland Road when he can afford it, and despite me telling them they should follow a proper team are not convinced.
One of the sources to get information from has ceased trying to make a living from paper and online stories. WD Sport has called it a day. It's been an emotional ride but, sadly, WD Sport is ceasing publication with immediate effect as I'm taking up a part-time role at Watford Football Club to provide compelling written content for their new website. WDS has been great fun and a rollocking ride. We've enjoyed bringing you exclusive Watford news you weren't able to read elsewhere and, in particular, seeing the debate our player ratings generated. We haven't always got our coverage right but we've had a damn good go trying to bring you the very latest news from Vicarage Road - and not just churn out news reported elsewhere. We believe our news has been largely well-received, alternative and thought-provoking in what is a very challenging era for publishing. It's not been easy, either financially or emotionally, but I've learnt a hell of a lot and met some great fans and contacts I wouldn't have otherwise met. I've now got a great opportunity to write for the other side of the fence and with unfettered access, use my journalistic instincts to provide the sort of stories and opinions fans want. Thanks for the support and occasionally robust debate. And thanks to those who have provided regular, unwavering support. You know who you are. Best wishes, Kevin
Good to see so many genuine tributes around the country today. Opened a good bottle of red after the game and now considering something post-prandial. Should it be a G and T or maybe a glass of port, except I'd have to choose between Graham's and Taylor's....assuming I had either!
